Since the API is going against protecting metal is that good or a bad thing, lol?? Since they now want thin hths and noacks is this good or bad? And of course no brands are revealed? Of course not, because absolutely nothing is true about what is going on now. If you are going to justify your existence can you please do it somewhere other then ho chi man city, lmao? API engineers giving speeches in da hochiman, whatever. Am I supposed to be on the edge of my seat? Why PQIA is the only trusted resource imo. Thanks for the entertaining post, but the API is a bad joke.Shamelessly stolen from Bitog: "Nearly Half of API Engine Oil Samples Fail to Meet Standards, Reveals Audit"
Which UTV?No soot for diesels either.
So, tonight I'm working my spring machinery maintenance list and realize I need to change gear oils on the UTV. It takes a straight API GL-4 (no EP additive), I imagine for the shift lockup synchros inside the gear boxes since there's no transfer case. These aren't spiral bevel or hypoid either, just plain 'ol bevel gears.
I usually get Red Line MT-85 for such things. Holy moly it's $23.10 per QUART everywhere! wtf is going on? Other syn GL-4's look to be charging similar, AC Delco, etc.
This simple oil should cost less than an engine oil, with all the additives needed for engines.
Not a spool for your application but tells you how they work.Ah. Thank you.
I don't have that detail, might be serial #10
Bought it on sight as soon as it was showed.
What do you mean by a "spool"? Unfamiliar with that term outside of hydraulic valves.
Edit: my 1 quart of Red Line MT-85 arrived today, lol.
Im guessing the brands that fail are some crappy cheapo grocery store brands that cost 3 bucks a quart or maybe some junk that gets peddled in some crappy quick lubesWhat does ram forum and the massive budgeting API have in common? Both have done about 1,000 test samples. But in every single sample I have seen as a group, I have not seen 46% additive or viscosity fails. Things that make you go hmmm.
PQIA the independent lab tests, in my memory i have only seen one or two red flag fails in the history of top oils tested, I think once there was a noack too high and one was something else I forget an additive. Cant remember the brands I'm guessing it was valv or RP but dont hold me to that. Any fail you see with pqia is not name brands but something you would likely see on a dollar tree shelf. Maybe that is why they have this in hochiman, because some none english place is the only people gonna believe their lies?
by the way that is why pqia was created, because they now they never fail, the manu's know if there is gonna be any red flags it will be with off off shelf oils. pqia funded by big oil and independant.
Basically a Lincoln Locker with out any welding, great for breaking axles if you turn too sharp on pavement, been there/done that more often then i liked, lolAh. Thank you.

How It Works: The Pros and Cons of Spools & Mini Spools
Spools are all about getting full lockup on a budget… 100% lockup 100% of the time. There are two types of spools: full spools and mini spools. Each attains the same objective, ensuring both drive wheels on a given axle receive full torque and rotate at the same speed all the time. They create a...www.yukongear.com
I'll be damned - I learned something today, thank you.
I never heard a bevel gear set called a "spool" before. I wonder how that terminology came about? Weird.
I was just looking at DG online and they have Drive MXD SAE 5W-20 Conventional Motor Oil, 32 fl oz. for 5.75hochimann blenders inc.
