Gawd damn, this is not good. When I purchased my truck on 7/17/15 A week later I detailed it and also checked and got myself familiar with the engine and drivetrain. You know, getting dirty under the truck and all. I noticed a little black like old oily area and wiped it dry to review later.

Well, today the same spot. Check the pics.

Funnily enough, I also received a survey about my new truck from Ram, they wanted to hear all about it. So I mentioned all the issues with paint and body also as well as this.

I think mine may also be leaking oil as well. I was planning on putting it up on ramps, then THOROUGHLY cleaning the underside and waiting to see if any oil popped up afterwards.

Yeah I found a thread by another member from July. He has same issue.

I think his mechanic said it was cosmomile, which it could be. If you follow that drip and go all the way to the top you'll see a round circular area omin silver. It's got some hard cosmomile on it so it could be that dripping down. I went back out and it didn't smell of engine all at all.

I wouldn't be to worried about. We see that a fair bit when trucks come in for their first oil change. You'll see that little bit but that's it, chances are if you clean it off, you won't see it again.

5.7? This worries me. Guess I'll be keeping a close eye on mine.

Are u guys trucks new? I think mine was cosmomile as it didn't smell of oil. Someone else on another forum had the exact issue and it was cosmomile.

Yes, 5.7L

I'll keep an eye on it either way.

Me personally, I would collect a droplet and see if it goes back to a waxy state solid after cooling to room temperature to make sure it really is cosmoline. If it is oil, it will stay a more fluid viscosity.

Just an update. Whilst having my Magnaflow muffler installed today, the leak or residue or whatver it is was still present.

I placed some on a credit card to see what occurs . It does not smell of oil nor ATF.

Current mileage now 2200 miles.

What was your results ?

You may have to get it cold for it to change back to a more solid state . Not freezing just Below room temp say 50-60 degrees .

I wouldn't be suprized if it takes a year++ or more to completely dissipate , depends how heavily coated the part was ...
I've removed cosmoline from parts that wer in storage for over 20 years .
I removed excess cosmoline form parts that have been in operation for several years , so likely not a concern .

I had the exact same thing on the under side of my truck the day after i brought it home. took it back to the dealer and the dyed the oil, 500 miles later no dye on the outside of the motor, first oil change 5000 miles again no dye, but the dyed the oil again and same results no dye on the outside of the motor. after a year the drops stopped showing up and the oil has been dyed twice since then to monitor but never any dye on the outside of the motor, they even pulled the access plate from the front of the bell housing and allowed me to have a look at the rear main seal as thats where it looked like it might be coming from with their black light on the lift in their garage, no glow at all. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, it has to be some type of assembly lube residue. I just did my first oil change this weekend at 5K miles and had a dried brown residue spot on the exact same location. Whatever was there has wicked away and not come back.
