not a very common option in most trucks. the ones i have seen are usually *****'d from what looks like heat damage. i think if you want something there you are best to build it yourself and use led lights

Mine has one as well that works and I looove it. Adds a lot more light to the cab, I don't know why they ever stopped putting them in

they lost the battle to overhead lighting. you can't beat the light output from overhead lighting.

no the cab light at the back of the cab suck in comparison to like in a overhead console light up by the windshield like the picture i posted. i installed a overhead console in my ramcharger and the great light output from that got me wanting to put one in my 81 also mainly just for the better light.

But the cab light and map light together dominate overhead lights. Overhead lights cause a floorboard shadow. The cab and map light together don't and illuminate the whole cab very well. Especially with LED's in them

i find the overhead light with led's lights up everything nearly perfectly. also in the pic i posted only 1 of the lights in on. it was nearly impossible to get a pic of the cab with the other light on. also if you are worried about shadows you could add led strips along the bottom dash frame for extra floor lighting.

But if you already have the map and some, no reason to install overhead. Especially since 85's don't have headliners. Just put in LED's and no shadows and really well lit

But who actually likes stock. I started working on a overhead console for my 81. Better lighting plus I will know the outside temp and possibly the direction I am going if the roof is not magnitized. Will be well worth it if I finish.
