A few things. Does your dome light work?

The yellow wire going to the map lights from the connector is for the door sense. This should read 0 ohms or have continuity to ground when the doors are open. This can be tested with a test light if a multimeter is not available. If there is voltage, then the harness for the lights, switches is bad and either needs repair or replacement. If there is no voltage, but your dome light works, you need to find the connector in the center of the instrument cluster and verify that the wire has continuity from the lights to that connector.

Attached is a picture of the harness and relevant connector location. The connector is a 22 way connector, but we are only interested in 3 of the pins, all yellow wires. Attached is a picture of the connector and the three wires that should all have continuity between them. Pin 12 (the middle of the three outlined pins) goes to the map lights.

If there is no continuity between pin 12 and the yellow wire by the map lamps in the overhead console, then the wire is damaged. If there is continuity, the connector is damaged. The easiest way to repair this problem is to splice the wire coming from pin 12 to the wire coming from pin 11, making sure not to damage the wire as it enter the connector on pin 11.

Did you wire up the 2 power sources plus the ground? Take a hard look below....

Where did you get those pinouts from? A haynes or chilton manual? What year? I'm curious because there are some slight errors in the factory service manual.
