As I'm putting wheel and tire packages together for my 16 I continue to contemplate the DPF, DEF EGR elimination. I have never left an exhaust on any truck I have owned stock. However, I live in an emissions county. I would have to be prepared to put the stock exhaust back on in about 2 years ( first emissions check ) and put it back on every year after.

I would really like to UN-choke this motor and get the soot recirculator off of it. But man I don't want the headaches of changing it back and forth.

Since the kids are married and at college we may be moving ( downsizing ) and a non emissions county would be in the works.....hopefully before the first emissions check.

How hard is it to change this this stuff back and forth?

As temperamental as the DEF system is to begin with, I foresee it being a nightmare when it came time to wake that system up again. I would guess the entire tank would have to be cleaned thoroughly, the lines cleaned and purged or replaced, and the doser replaced entirely. Even then, once put back together and the SCR fails from moisture or other elements (spiderwebs) they are outrageously expensive.

If it were still just DPF/EGR I would do it again. This system seems to be fine as is for me.

The guys that I know that put those stuff on and off for testing have preDEF trucks. I guess if you leave the EGR and def parts intact it wouldn't be much different.

If you are itching to modify you might consider going with emissions intact tuning for now and then remove emissions once you relocate to a more friendly area.
