The transmissions are the same, but you will want to wait for Dapepper to speak on which flexplate/torque converter to use.

I'm pretty sure that you can use the flexplate and torque converter from your current engine on the newer trans, but I can never remember with 100% certainty.

I'd also look at installing a secondary oil cooler if your truck doesn't have it already.

that works

Thank you sounds good. Is 400.00 a good price and would you change all the Sensors now after I purchase it?

It depends on how many miles are on it. If you don't feel like rebuilding it, try for something that has already been rebuilt, or has less than 80K miles, otherwise you're just spinning the wheel.

If you don't mind rebuilding it yourself, you can get complete rebuild kits for anywhere from $300-500 that cover most problem areas.

If its been rebuilt, 400 is a good price as long as nothing looks burnt. If not, I wouldn't pay more than 300 because that means i'm going to have to spend that again to rebuild it.

Yep 96+ the tq converter is the same between the 5.2 and 5.9 but the flexplate is different. Being as both are 5.9 you shouldn't have issues there.

To work in a 96 you'll need the 96-97 governor solenoid and sensor as well as tcc/od solenoid. The big issue you'll run into is the vehicle speed sensor. After 98, it was moved to the rear axle so the 99 has no place for it. Luckily, it's not actually in the trans but the transfer case. Use your 96 transfer case and you'll be fine, swapping tcases is just a little more work.
This is a good kit to use top get everything you'll need covered.

400 is a good price if it's in working order and another 200 for the service kit you're sitting pretty good if you can do the work. If you can spend the extra scratch, a transfer case saver kit is also a good idea
