@jettajam1, you gonna run the Redline C+ in the interim, while you hash out the " Y " pipe?

Running the C + would give you a fantastic flush and give your xsmn a higher overall % of Redline only inside .

Yes I am. figured I have it, it's outstanding fluid and when I get to installing the MH pan, It will be a great C+ flush.....just like you said.

Well she took 6 qts of C+ last night, and I must say, there is a bit of work getting the levels correct. No leaks and she's good to go, here is the temp after an hour drive on a SoCal freeway in bumper to bumper traffic.

I'll double check the fluid level again, when I get home from work tonight.

Side note: shifting seems a bit smoother with the new filters and the C+[emoji106]

That's great I'm glad it worked out! I noticed right away my trans shifted better with C+ but I wasn't 100% sure it wasn't the placebo effect.

6 quarts sounds right for the stock pan. Just in case you didn't know, make sure to check the fluid level in Neutral not park. The pump doesn't run in park...

Thats crazy good temps. When im on the freeway in the 70+ degree summer my tranny is always around 170.

When i take a 15 min drive through down town in the winter (below 20 degrees) it is around 90-110.

Woah yours gets up to 170 on the highway in the summer? I didn't know these RFE trans got that hot...

Yup. Temps were the same since day one. Hot days its around there.

May have to do with the fact that it's in a bigger heavier truck. More wind resistance as well. Just works it harder

Oh yeah that's right you have a 3500, thats probably it.

I find my trans temps skyrocket if I sit and idle the truck in park when it's hot out. Like it goes up 30+ degrees in 10mins of idling. I have to put it in neutral to get the pump going which helps to an extent but it still climbs while idling...

Did not know neutral will help cool it when idling. Thanks for the info. With transmissions it's all about temperature and chances are this transmission will not last near as long in my truck as it will in your truck.

You should've saw the temps when I was pulling only 10,000 pounds. It was touching 180

Don't forget you have at the 66rfe(?) Which is a stronger transmission than the 65rfe.

But damn man that's pretty toasty. I'd seriously look into an aux cooler.

For those that don't know the trans cooler and the ac condenser are an integral unit on these trucks. Since both get rid of massive amounts of heat I have to imagine they hinder each other's cooling in the hotter months...

The only way I feel like I'm going to help my transmission last a long time even with these high temps as I'm going to do a fluid change every 15,000 miles (2 years for me) and a filter and fluid change every 30.

May even consider doing the fluid change sooner than 15

I have looked at them before but I honestly don't know if I trust myself doing the work I would have to pay somebody to do it.

This is an excellent idea. Frequent transmission fluid changes do nothing but help a transmission, especially if you tow a lot or see high trans temps

Do you think the dealer would put one in and have my truck still be under warranty

That sounds like a good plan , maybe a bit overkill , unless your towing alot ? Have you installed a larger capacity pan yet ? Just the added fluid in your xsmn system will help it cool , especially the Mag-Hytec pan with the Cooling finlets inside & out .
Even with the larger capacity pan I'd still do regular fluid changes though

Good luck with your truck!

I know it's overkill....LOL!

But im like that:)

I may just settle with filter and fluid change every 20,000and call it good.

No deep pan yet.

EDIT: Currently at 9000 miles and am withing to do the first fluid filter chang until i get the pan. I think in going to just get thr PML pan this month....i think. fYI: 20,000 miles will be a little over 2 years for me. I do about 8-9000 a year
