Slant six
Hello everybody, my old 1986 dodge, my dad bought new, served him well, he passed away about seven years ago, so to the benefit of his memory I decided to fix it up and drive it occasionally, a lot of work has been done, mostly paint and bodywork, sending pic, I will have a lot of questions in the future, hoping to find answers, the truck is factory slant six, it will be a 318, already have a donor.

nice truck. that parts truck almost looks too nice to be used as a parts truck. are both 4x4?

No, neither one are 4x4, the 91 I bought for parts the cab is rusted out too bad, but the engine seems strong.

ok. it just looks pretty good compared to what you find around where i live. ya these things just keep going and going. it should be a fairly straight forward swap. you will need to swap quite a bit over from the parts truck but it should make the 86 nicer especially if the 91 has an overdrive transmission. the overdrive helps the fuel mileage a lot when you do lots of highway driving. the fuel injection makes it nicer for cold weather starting.

The transmission is overdrive there is a button on the dash, I assume it is electric, not computer controlled? I'm wanting to put the v-8 in the 86 without fuel injection, I would like to decomputer the whole truck and engine, if that's possible?

the overdrive is normally computer controlled. you can wire it to manually control it but it is more convenient with it computer controlled. personally if it was me i would keep the fuel injection especially if you are not doing anything to the engine. i have even thought about converting my 81 to TBI but i almost want to buy aftermarket but it is big money for small to no change in performance over my well tuned 4bbl. it would just make it more driveable when cold which would be nice when in a bit of a hurry and you don't really want to wait for it to warm up.
