5900 miles on oci and you still have almost 3 tbn left, I'm not terribly disappointed with that. I'm not sure what the deal is, but when you and I were reading the uoa's ten years ago seamed like oils held tbn better. Who knows if it is newer oil formulations, an additive in gas, summer blended fuel, or ethanol mandates that are taking us out of the old long intervals. 8k miles is a decent interval, get you some bg moa if you are feeling lazy at 8k.

Decided to get rid of the factory fill at 2880 miles and replaced with PYB 5w-20 and a RP 10-48 filter. Did I ever mention that the filter location is a PITA? Even with the zip lock method I still manage to spill a bit... everytime lol.
Anywho, when I was dumping in the 5 quart container of oil, it looked a bit darker compared to the other two single quart containers, and then towards the end some whittish clumps came out and of course down the funnel into the engine. Did this oil partially separate? Wish I had a picture. Date on the bottom of the jug was January 7, 2017.
Also, my oil pressure in now higher than it was with the previous factory fill. Truck would previously idle around 35psi warm and around 50 psi driving. Now its around 45 psi warm and closer to 60 psi driving going just north of 70 psi when accelerating around 4-5k rpm.
Should I be worried? Guess I am a bit or I wouldn't be posting this.
The white clumps ....maybe wax but I doubt it , idk?
Doesn't matter what ever it was if it's a solid or above 10 micron it's in the filter now .

I have a paint strainer in my funnel , a habit from work because our oil cans are all metal and we open with a V cutting can opener , the strainer is to catch unwanted broken off metal from opening the can .

As far as the oil pressure goes , I wouldn't worry much as my oil pressures at hot idle with what ever the bulk oil junk at the dealer was pumping into my truck during the "free" oil changes was 27-28 psig , my first oil change I did myself was Redline 5W-30 with a RP 10-48 filter and my hot idle jumped to a more normal 40 -42 psig....

Keep us posted on your oil pressures and if you change anything .

It does seem odd to have a big jump like that with only a 20wt oil ?

4K on OCI w/2.8 TBN left. Sorry I just had higher expectations with very easy miles on this Oil.

I honestly expected at least a 4.0
I'm thrilled with the low wear numbers as well as the no fuel dilution or coolant showing up in the oil. All positive results. Except for the TBN

@ Syn , great wear # for a 5.7L @ 25k , looks like iron is 30 something & copper is 30 something !

You had quite a bit of towing on this oci didn't you ?

I don't know where they are getting 5900 miles on this OCI when above it is strictly printed 4000 miles on interval.

One thing is for sure, the 0w40 is like a different oil. Just doesn't look near as impressive as even this PU 0w40. The calcium bugs me, I wonder if they had a bad batch? Which in itself would be a bad sign.

Looky here Syn, voa 5w30 PUP, I just don't get it. Yours are way off from others,

Lower calcium without the magnesium to back it up would likely be the culprit for the tbn being low. That uoa blows me away, I don't know what to make of it. We need to see some more in the penzoil thread for comparison. 1800 calcium with magnesium not bad, when you don't have mag you need like 2300 plus calcium for a longer oci.

Thanks rlk.

If you look near the top it looks to me the rp is thicker media? What about editing that and putting the wix xp from my video as well? U are the man.

I suggest everyone try both and cut them open after a run, and remark which one you like better. Two top quality filters either way you look at it.

Yup I think they botched my UOA!
I might do 1 more with my current OCI.
(since it's free)
Then possibly switch labs.

@ Burla, your video doesn't have a wix XP ?

Anyway check out these two VOA s of PUP 5W-30 . The first is the one you posted earlier , it's from 2015 , the 2nd is one I had done earlier this year 2017 . Notice everything from the 2017 has gone DOWN ie ...Molybdenum , boron , magnesium, phosphorus , zinc and the TBN ..... this is a sign , need to stock up on REDLINE before it continues to drop as well !

Napa Platinum = Wix XP

Even in this video it looks like the pleats are tight and thin.

I don't think I am going to apologize today for liking the Royal Purple filter better. But I honestly think the Wix XP is excellent as well. The Fram kicks ass too. Guys, run synthetic filters!

It may be that the Wix XP is tighter and more condensed, as their micron ratings are a little better then RP. However, over at Bob's many of the guys are less then impressed with Wix XP's ratings and beta testing, search for yourselves. One problem, RP doesn't have flow rates, so we can't compare. My gut tells me RP flows better, but Wix XP/Napa Platinum has a better micron rating on first pass. Syn's video is really good, shows others positives the wix xp has like a spring.

Wix is a filter company, RP is an oil company, they haven't been as thorough with the tech sheets, but in my opinion the quality is in the filter.

Thanks for posting those uoa's RLK and those filter snap shots, so yeah TBN tells the story. If it becomes a trend with PUP, then I'm not going to put them in the same breath as redline. Still a great oil, but it would be more of a short oci oil, and for what they charge and the marketing as their flagship oil, I'm not impressed. Fellas, this is why we need to keep up on the formulas. Now I wonder if I shouldn't get 5 more cases of redline for the life of the ram. I'm not joking neither, I have 3 already on the way. Corey bought some as well, 44 bucks a 1 gal jug amazon.
