Just installed an inexpensive Tonnopro Tonneau cover on my Ram and was wondering what the best local purchase (Walmart, Oriellys, or Auto Zone) vinyl protectant I should buy?

Not looking for some high dollar protection. just want something I can run out and get locally that will extend the life of the cover.

Thanks

Rob

303 has a protectant that is made for tonneau covers. Can be found at Autopart stores

303 is a quality brand. You can find reviews on Autogeek and Autopia and Amazon

+1 on the 303. Another option is Meg #40. Does a good job also.

The cover I had on my f150 said to only use 303. I had that cover on there for 10 years and never put anything on it. On new cover on my ram it didn't specify anything to use or not use.

303 takes some elbow grease. Read the directions or it won't work and you'll be mad at us for recommending it.

Glad I found this thread in a search... I figured someone else out there likely asked about a tonneau cover protector.

I'll be ordering some 303 off Amazon this week!

Many thanks guys! :)

303 is good for just about anything, BUT, you will want to do a couple things with it:
  1. Always spray it on a sponge, microfiber applicator, or a small microfiber towel FIRST, then wipe it on. Using the sprayer is just asking for streaks on you interior glass, or on your paintwork etc. on the exterior. You want 303 to go precisely where you need it, and nowhere else.
  2. ALWAYS buff it off after letting it sit for about 10 minutes with a clean dry microfiber towel. You want to rub the hell out of it as if you are trying to remove it all (don't worry, it will stay behind). Any extra 303 that isn't sufficiently buffed off, especially on exterior trim, tires, etc. will streak and run like mad all over your paintwork, wheels, etc. when your vehicle gets any rain or even light dew on it.
I didn't know this at first and tried just wiping on a nice "thin" coating of 303 and the first time my truck got wet it ran down the sides of my bed and left streaks. Example:

Lastly, 303 is more of a "dressing" than a sealant or long-term protection. It's also water-based. This means on the exterior at least, you're going to have to reapply at least monthly or more if you live somewhere where it rains.

I used to buy 303, now I buy Pledge lemon furniture polish by the case. Put it on the tonneau, wheels, tires, all over the dash and interior door panels. Repels dust and brake dust, is hydrophobic and it smells great!

Tried 303 but I don’t think I applied it correctly, I sprayed on mf towel then rubbed it in, leaving no streaks, let sit then rubbed down again but 30 min after I completed the tonneau it was filthy, everything stuck to it, everything was attracted to it. So I washed it all off and went back to meguiar’s.
