what are you guys running for oil?

I was going to go with the filter maintenance kit from genos
'03-'07 Dodge Diesel Filter Maintenance Kit - FLEETGUARD-Geno's Garage

but synthetic or non? I am pretty set on rotella, was looking at the 5w40 a lot because it is a lighter weight in the cold so it is easier in the winter. what about 10w30? or does it not matter and just go with 15w40 non synthetic?

Im currently running the T5 which is 10/30.
Walmart is pretty cheap $12 for the T5 and $19 for the T6

Something to think about there is more diesel trucks crossing 1 Million miles on petroleum oils than there is on synthetics.

I run Rotella 15w40 and change it every 5000 miles and it usually comes out pretty clean except during camping season when I'm towing a lot more. I have sent my oil to BlackStone Labs to get tested and they said I could go another 2000 to 3000 more miles without a problem. I asked them if synthetic was worth the extra money and they said no.

Synthetic has advantages no matter the brand it has a better pour point at low temps. If it was me I would run synthetic but I run synthetic usually Ams in every machine I have. It is way to cold to mess around with a thick Dino oil IMO. I don't own a diesel but I do tow a lot and use it as a working truck not babied.

Just brought her home tonight!
Not the one I expected but she is a real power house!

Many hours of research & thinking have past!
I have chose to run with 1 full year OCI...
Shell (GTL) Rotella T6 5W-40 & 8oz ZDDPlus to boost the Zinc / Phosphorus levels with a Fleetguard Stratapore or RP Filter.

Later I will be adding a single stage oil by-pass unit.

My main concern is only using a CK4 rated Oil!
Don’t run a CK4/SN rated Oil—->This Oil will contain lower levels of ZDDP. (Not a good choice for a hard working Diesel engine.)

Front Differential = Red Line 75W-90
Transfer Case = Mopar ATF+4
Transmission 68RFE = Mopar ATF+4 —> When the new pan is installed.
Rearend = (Combo) Red Line 75W-90 / 1Qt 75W-140

These new fluids will be swapped over within a period of miles/time.
Mostly all done next spring/summer.
I want to get through all the initial (break-in) wear metal period. Mainly between 10-20K miles.
Then drain all the fluids.

After going back & forth between brands many times over!(In my Head & on Paper). This is a important decision ya know.

3Gal Rotella T6 5W-40 w/Fleetguard Stratapore filter!
Will be going in my 6.7L for her first OCI & there after.
I will also add 4oz of ZDDPlus to boost the Zinc/Phosphorus levels a bit.

After my first UOA I will determine whether or not I need to adjust the amount of ZDDPlus added.

For those **** owners who are very selective of the Oil they run:—->Beware of these CK-4/SN oils!!
These will carry the CK-4/SN certification which contain very low levels of Zinc/Phosphorus—(ZDDP).
Not a wise choice for a powerful Diesel engine.

Stick with the oil that carry these 2 certifications ——>CJ-4 (CES20081) CK-4 (CES20086)

Just heard back from Chris: Rotella T6 5W-40 is a (Keeper)!
This product still as good levels of ZDDP! Great news for a hard working HD Diesel Engine.

Hi Lonnie,

Thanks for reaching out! Our Rotella T6 5W-40 Synthetic (CK-4) (meets MS-10902 and Cummins CES 20081 specs) is highly recommended for your 2017 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 L Cummins diesel engine. It was not given an API SN rating due to its high ZDDP (Zinc around 1200 ppm and phosphorus around 1000ppm), as well as high phos (above 800ppm) is detrimental to catalytic converters of new gasoline engines. We have a separate product that is intended for mixed fleet calling for CK-4/SN and that is the Rotella T6 Multi-Vehicle 5W-30.

Hope this helps!

Use this oil with FULL Confidence!

I come across another outstanding oil filter for the 6.7L CTD.
Donaldson Blue DBL7349 w/Synthetic media.

For those that are curious: I know only 5 out of 1K possibly might be here is my list.
12Qts Rotella T6 5W-40 year round w/4oz ZDDPlus.

My top Synthetic media filters:
1. Fleetguard Stratapore LF16035 —->I stocked up on these (6)
2. Donaldson Blue DBL7349
3. Royal Purple 40-780
4. Wix 57620XP

New & Final decision: -Shell - 3Gal Rotella T6 5W-40 & 12oz Hot Shots Secret F3 w/Nano Technology —> while running Fleetguard LF9028 ES Stratapore filter (During the Winter months)

Summer months: Rotella T6 w/8oz ZDDPlus! ——>A bit of extra ZDDP for protection while towing.

First OCI will be done around May or June w/Rotella T6 5W-40 & FG Stratapore Filter.

For those that concern themselves with the importance of routine Maintenance!

Here is another oil filter option for the 6.7L.
It is well worth a look.

Come across another oil filter with some serious interest.
Similar principle but a bit different design.

Baldwin BD7317

About half the $$ as the FL9028 but not near as efficient.

Last time: Found my Schaeffers Oil jobber again.

Going to do 1 yr OCI due to I don't drive the Judge every day. She might sit for a week inside the garage and never started.
Due to I have a company pickup I drive.

2Gallons Schaeffers 9000 5W-40 & 1Gallon Schaeffers Ultra 10W-30 with a Fleetguard LF9028 ES oil filter.

Depending on the OLM and my mileage per year I might be able to do 2yr OCI.
Justify the cost of this great oil and filter combo.

There are a lot of Diesel oil's tested on the oil testing site. And a new article 34 was added over the weekend - How well do Traditional Heavy Duty Diesel oils perform, when they have the latest CK-4 certification; was added to the site. Click the link and you can freely scroll through all 221 oils tested and compared. Gas and diesel oils all tested and ranked. Enjoy!
