I'm probably going to do this this weekend. I've never waxed a vehicle before, and I had the truck permaplated at the dealership. What would y'all recommend as a temporary solution until I decide to spend money at Adam's, which may be a while from now since the permaplating lasts 7 years?

You bought a warranty with the "permaplating" nothing more. The stuff isn't worth a damn! NO LSP lasts 7 years. FACT!

I'd highly recommend you pop into adamsforums.com if you get a chance and read up. Also watching their how-to vids will show you the correct ways to work with your paint, rubber, plastic, and glass and interior.

Remember, you get what you pay for when it comes to detailing supplies. The best way to buy Adams is with their daily specials and using the forum code for 10% off. You have nothing to lose with the 110% guarantee.

I've watched all kinds of videos on their site and YouTube channel. I am without a doubt going to purchase their products, and send a lot of money to them for the rest of my life. I was just curious if there is another brand that I could get a small bottle at advanced auto parts or something to get me through till I purchase Adam's.

How many times did y'all have to go over the debadged area with the 3M adhesive remover before what was left over came off? I had a lot of adhesive left around the edges. I've sprayed 3 times, let sit for about 5-10 seconds, and then wiped off with a microfiber towel. It just seems to smear it and not remove it.

Finally got mine done today! I used the fishing line, pull method. I used 3M adhesive remover spray to remove what was left. Then used Meguires Wet/Dry Wax to seal up the area and make it shine.

I have the TRX4 sticker on the back, what is the best process to take that off? I am going to debadge, but I will probably leave the Hemi badges on. Thanks for the help.

ETA: Does it matter that my truck is 4 years old? Will the paint be faded? Should I stay away from doing it this late in the game? Thanks!

Your paint could be faded underneath, Yes.
With enough elbow grease you can bring the paint back around it if you need to.

What color is your truck?

The paint won't be faded... If anything, it'll be darker. Paint that's NOT covered will fade to a lighter color.

No amount of polishing will resolve the issue. Help perhaps, but not eliminate it.

Personally, unless it's garage kept and you're a detailing fool, I'd leave it alone.

Its Brilliant black pearl.
Yes, what I meant was the paint around being faded, not the paint under the badges. It is not garage kept.

My buddy ****** the stripes off his used Mini and you could still seem them. It was darker red where they had laid for a few years.

I've seen people debadge with the same results. :emotions34:

Ah! That's what I was afraid of. Would it be extremely noticeable? It's sounding like it's best to keep on, but I wanna cover all my bases. Thanks for the help.

Extremely? Probably not, but remember the paint under it is pristine, and unless you're a paint correcting fool, the rest of your paint isn't. You'll be able to really tell at first.

That's why I am debadging as one of the first things after it hits from the factory. If I could have ordered it "naked" I would have...

This thread is soley to explain proper and helpful ways to debadge. If you want to add a video, make it a video you, or another RF member made, no outside stuff. If you know some great tips/tricks, make a vid and post it up here, or explain your processes to help out members thinking of debadging!

This may sound like one weird method to remove badges but I've been doing it for years and have never scratched the paint. I buy a brand new puddy knife. Then take a old t-shirt and wrap it around the end of this knife and slowly push it into one end of the badge. Take it out, wrap the tee-shirt around the knife "two" times, gently push it into the glue, take it out. Usually after the third time of doing this, I can then get my fingers on the edge of the badge and simply pull it off the truck. One can use a heat gun but the best way I've found to get the badge off, with "most" of the glue is to park the truck directly in the hot sun. You would be amazed at how fast you can remove the glue. If I have a problem with glue, I use WD-40 on a MicroFiber towel, rub gently and it comes right off. I then clay the area where the badge was, put a coat of polish over it and then a coat of wax. Never can tell where any badge was.

Like stripes on a car, the longer you leave badges on any vehicle and then remove them, you stand a chance of having an outline of the badge. Best to just remove them as fast as possible. If you have an outline of the badge, first try claying that area. If that doesn't work, take a small amount of rubbing compound. Once you get the area clean, apply polish and wax.

I have a white 2007. Would the white fade enough to be noticeable if I debadged?

Depends on a lot of factors, like whether it's been garaged or lived outside, how well it has been taken care of in general, how much work you will be willing to put into polishing it if there is noticeable fade...

Worst case scenario is you remove them, fade is awful, and you buy some 3M tape and put them back on. :)
