With a 2017 1500 and a 5k lbs trailer, I got 3" of squat in the rear. As the trailer max is around 6500 lbs, would 1000 lb airbags be sufficient or should I just commit to the 5k bags?

If you are referring to the Air Lift 1000 vs Air Lift 5000 bags, that depends. The 1000 are great for occasional towing, IMO. If you will be towing semi-frequently or more, go the larger route.

Instead of Air Lift 5000, if thats your route, I'd consider the Timber Grove kit. If I towed more often, I'd get rid of my Air Lift 1000s and get the Timber Grove in a heartbeat.

My mistake. No suspension mods. Bumper pull. Not intending to upgrade the trailer. Absolutely a WDH.
Primarily looking at the Airlift 1000 vs the 5000 airbags. We pull the trailer about 10 times a year, so often enough, by not all year round.

If you're willing to take an $80-ish bet, try the 1000s. If they don't suffice, you can always upgrade later. :favorites13:

If you don't want to take a bet, and are on the fence, go with the 5000s/Timber Groves. Better to be safe than sorry you wasted money and time (install) later.

I think you'll be happy with the 1000. It doesn't take much air pressure either. If I remember right, 35psi and I had zero squat on my 1500 Silverado with about 1,200lbs in the bed.
I have the Firestone RideRite on my Ram, I haven't needed more than 10-15psi for towing or hauling so far.

Just ordered the Timber Grove kit with the WirelessOne compressor setup. I'll let everyone know how it goes and post pics as soon as I install it. Thanks for the advice.

I've had both & their tech support will explain. Get the axle to frame bags. Better suspension dampening & control not just lift. Even some weight distribution. My vote also either TLC total load control or Timber Grove over Airlift 5000.

Might be worth pointing out the newer 1000s have a max psi of 70 rather than the old 35 now. I'm aired up to 50 and get zero squat, at 50psi, in fact if I air them up to 60-65psi the rear of the truck is higher than my trailer, it's a big Nono but the 70psi increase has made a world of difference on the new 1000s

Where are you getting your info from? After checking out the Air Lift website and not seeing anything, I called them and I was told they do not have a spring for inside the spring that goes above 35psi.

oops, i lied, I'm thinking of firestone coil rite airbags, no air lift. My bad guys! The firestone coil rite ( inside springs ), have new 70PSI bags.

What I have seen is a truck that rides drives handles & is in better control under a load with axle to frame vs in coil. Better dampening & control of your suspension not just lift.

Oh ok. Might just have to try these out. I can't stand the ride that my Air Lift 5000's cause. It doesn't matter how much air I have in them. They make the truck ride like crap.

You should. Aired up to 60psi is to much for daily driving without a load , but when I put them at 30-35psi it rides like butter.

Installed Timber Grove airbags with Airlift WirelessOne in the rambox today. Works great and no overheating of the clean and protected compressor. 3489b0540548cf3b58f2a4ef6c63f725.jpg

My vote goes to airlift 5000. After using the 1000, I wouldn't buy them again. They helped, but with 600 lbs on the hitch, it still squatted down. I was lifted, but still had 1" of rake.

Airlift 1000:puke: Bags are a cruel joke. They are more for putting overweight kids in the back of a minivan. Ok that was mean but I have installed a dozen sets and warranty replacement for all of them that were installed in trucks. I like Airlift they make good products and good CS but Airlift 1000's in trucks no bueno. Yes I know some people have good luck but I haven't experienced any.

Air lift 5000's and or bite the extra cost for absolute trouble free Air Lift 88365 LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate. They have a built in bumpstop. Best thing I have ever done. When you forget to check your air pressure they still don't get hurt. Love them.

I like that install of the Timber Grove Kit a little better than the AirLift I think. Not cutting the bumpstops off the frame is a big plus
