Allright yall! Im sorry but yet another travle trailer question. I have a 2013 1500 express 1500 quad cab 5.7 4x4 with it believe the 3.55 rear. Sooo max tow capacity of 9250ish???

Long story short the old lady and I are looking at getting a travel trailer soon and she has her heart set on a Coachman Apex 289tbss tongue to bumper of 32'4 box around 28' weighing in at 5977 empty, max of 7600 hitch weight 675.

Do any of you have experience pulling a trailer of that size with something similar? I plan to get a good anti sway hitch airbags and maybe a tuner and aftermarket tranny cooler.

Thanks in advance!

IMHO, way too much trailer for that truck. Empty weight is a useless number. By the time you add supplies, propane, potable and waste water, and people, you will be overweight. You might be able to pull it, but you won't enjoy the experience.

It's not as simple as overweight or not. A "box" that big will not be fun to tow.
The tail wagging the dog is going to be a issue. Your truck just doesn't have enough weight to keep that size TT happy.

Thanks for the input. I agree empty weight is empty weight. However at just under 950 lbs for full drinking water, grey water, and sewage which I don't see ever being that loaded 40 lbs of propane, 50 for second battery, leaves 650 lbs or so of other stuff. Even with 1000 lbs of gear over loaded by 500 lbs it would still be under the max tow for the truck.

Are you saying that it would be un-joyable because of the truck or the over loaded trailer which would make it less fun on any truck no matter the capacity. And Imay pretty sure people don't ride in the trailer.

Your max towing rating is about 8600 lbs, 3900 GAWR(front & rear) 14.1K GCWR spend the time to set up your weight distribution hitch correctly or the trailer could be a major handful.

We used our stock 13 1500 5.7 to tow our 30' Travel trailer "very close to your specs" for a while. It handled it OK but hills killed it.

I now use our 14 3500 6.7 needless to say night and day difference

The biggest question in my mind is how far are you going to pull this thing? If you going 15min to the local lake or big traveling couple times a year or once a month, once a week ect. I think situation should be taken into account for this trailer and your truck.

Can it tow it, yes. Will there be white knuckles, especially on windy days, yes. Will you have a hard time gaining / maintaining momentum on hills, yes. Will a sense of dread wash over you while camping every time you think about the tow home, perhaps. Will you want a 2500 after the 1st tow, yes.

Been there, done that, ever after a good friend said 'That's way too much camper for your truck'. Now he says.. 'told you so..'

5.7 HEMI 3.92 GEAR
I tore a TT that is 36' bumper to tongue in length with my 2012. It has the 3.92 gears. It's rated for 10,400 lbs. The TT is a little over 8000 lbs and closer to 9000 loaded. I haven't had any issues towing it all. Most of our trips have been in our state with two in Arkansas. About 6 hours one way. I do have air bags which help out allot and keep the truck and trailer level. No problem pulling it even up hill. I just don't work the engine too hard and try to keep it around 55 uphill. 65mph tops due to tire limitations. I inherited this setup from my folks who don't use it anymore. I would have gone with a 2500 just for piece of mind. But for now this works. I don't have the extra money to buy a different truck or trailer so I'll just use what I have until I can trade up on the truck or down on the trailer.

I tow this trailer which is 31'6" from ball to bumper, and it weighs just at 6378 Empty, with two 6 volt batts, two full 40lb LP, and all the crap my wife and I put into it, plus 66 gallons of fresh water, I am sitting right at 7346lb. My 2016 1500 QCSB 4x4 5.7 3.21, pulls it just fine. I have a really really nice WD hitch with built in sway control, and With it all set up properly, I can pull it down the road at 65mph, with no problems. Sway is minimum, even with southern Idaho winds.

Yeah going up hill, isn't the most fun, but I dont tow a trailer every day. If I did I would have a 3500 6.7. With what I need, and what I do, it works just fine.

Comparing a 1500 5.7 to a 2500 or 3500 6.7 CTD is assinine. OF COURSE the 6.7 pulls night and day different, its designed for that.

I realize that no one rides in the trailer. You still need to add the weight of driver and "in cab" passengers to get gross weight of combination.

IMG_3701.JPG I pull this beauty with me from job to job. Could be from Texas(where I am now) to West Virginia or California. I live in my camper. It's 30' and weighs in at 9250. I have no trouble with it. Now I have beefed up my truck to help assist with it and that makes a huge difference. My specs are as followed:
2013 4x4 5.7 3.92 CCSB
Bils at 2.8 in front, bils in the back, airlift1000 ran hoses individually to eliminate side to side movements, mevotech UCA and diablo T1000 programmer on 35x12.5r20 nitto trails.

I've been thinking about getting a trans cooler and also upgrading brakes to EBC just haven't gotten around to it. But I do monitor them while towing and have had 0 issues thus far.

I wouldn't. Especially far. Just bc the truck can doesn't make it safe. Can't count the number of times I have seen a truck towing too much trailer. All over the place, especially in wind.

I would say find a similar floor plan in a smaller trailer. Or maybe look at a small fifth wheel. If they still do smaller ones.

I have a 2015 ram crew cab 5.7 hemi with a 3.21 rear end. I have a 2016 30 foot Coahman Apex, The dry weight is 6100 pounds and when I had it loaded it was at 7300 pounds. The truck pull the trailer from Southeast Texas to Georgia with no problems at all. I did have to watch my weights because I was pushing The limits on the weights for my truck. The oil temperature and the transmission temperature did not vary much.
