I just realized. When 4 of us went to ride with our downhill mountain bikes I was over capacity in the truck. Yeah, 4 people and 4 mountain bikes. Just the 4 people alone I was over capacity, according to the sticker.

lol. yeah, maybe the sticker printer had a glitch that day or something. there's just no way that can be accurate.

I believe ram has a website where you can enter your vin and it will give you your tow rating and payload capacity. id try that and see what it says

This is the site. Have to click "LOOK UP MY VEHICLE" to the right.

https://www.ramtrucks.com/en/towing_guide/

Here are the results for my VIN. 1,570 LBS cargo capacity. So, yeah, the sticker on my truck is WAY the f*** off. hahaha

Number one reason I went up to 2500 was the payload. All of the other business-like functionality things are just great bonuses. But yeah, the payload on the 1500s is just too low. The trucks have plenty of power and a great trans to tow pretty heavy stuff, but the numbers are just ********. I guess you are supposed to buy a Tradesman to maybe safely tow anything with people and gear? Stupid.

Ram has got to address this on the next gen 1500.

Having said that, all 1500s are like this. On paper Ram is worst. But all the manufacturer's throw big numbers in the ads and people think "hey, why buy a big fuel sucking HD when this 1500 can tow 13 THOUSAND pounds. Lol. Then on the highway they are having a heart attack learning the hard way as 18 wheelers blow by them. The bones of 1500 trucks are just not designed to control the physics of it. Especially depending on what your hauling and the aerodynamics etc.

Anyone know if the site actually accounts for the options of the particular VIN, or does it just pull the model and it's standard features?

Pretty sure the site said my 1500 Big Horn had the same payload (1570) but the door sticker said less as well. Cant remember exactly what it said now. Def wasnt as bad as Riccochet's lol.

Your weight ratings are ridiculously low. Ouch!! I have a 2017 1500 QC 4X4 with a 6'4" box, 3.21 gears & 265 70 17 tires. I went out to my truck and took a pic of my labels. Mine said to never exceed 1570 lbs. I bought my truck to haul some firewood each year and to tow my 6X12 MC trailer when necessary. The last load of firewood we got was our biggest just above box height, with our weight & the Truxedo lo pro cover we were at 1,550 lbs. We had 20 lbs to spare. lol Take out the Cover and there's an extra 32 lbs. I also have a Shur-line scale and I'm going to weigh my MC trailer today empty & with my heaviest bike to get an Idea of tongue weight. I know riding gear will also add some weight.

I downsized from a 2000 2500 HD QC 8' box & a V10 8.0L Magnum. I don't miss that truck at all. I used to pull a heavy toy hauler with it and know that I can't do that anymore. We're retired and have a 25' motorhome to travel in & it handles my MC trailer like it wasn't even there.

P.S. It's a good thing that I lost 45 lbs in the last 1 1/2 yrs or we would have been over getting firewood.

Easiest way to do it is to go by axle rating and not exceed it. Then some minor upgrades to the suspension, like Hellwig sway bars, springs and/or air bags and a quality WDH will make all the difference in the world between white knuckle towing and comfortable towing.

It does not. I have yet to see an example from there that matches the sticker on a door jamb.

I went round and round with a salesman with a truck I was looking at online. I asked for the payload from the sticker, he sent me that link. So I played along and used the site to get the number, then told him to open the driver door , snap a pic and send it to me............he FINALLY realized the 2 don’t match

Without talking to me, a buddy "upgraded" from a 2500 Suburban to a 1500 Ram. He got all the bells and whistles - Longhorn, air suspension, nerf bars - pretty much anything that weighed anything he has. His payload sticker...... drum roll please........ 1070#!!!!!!

He couldn't understand what the flashing light on the dash pointing at the truck bed icon meant when we were out with our RVs :roflsquared::roflsquared:

All he kept saying is the truck can tow 10,000# and his RV weighs 8,000#.

Yeah, some of the Ram payloads are ridiculous.

For your hilarious viewing pleasure. And, I did ask the dealer about that and even they said the manufacturer must have left a "1" off the front of that number. There's no way in hell it only has 774 lbs of cargo capacity. LOL

Heck thats only 3 average americans!

YEP...It's a POS...When used for it's intended purpose...Too many yahoo's buy HD trucks to fulfill their testosterone levels, and never really put the truck through any severe usage, other than grocerys and soccer games...lol...

Yeah, i know one. Bought a 3500, I asked why when you don't tow, he said wanted big truck.:)

lol...my jamb sticker says 774 lbs of cargo, yet I have CC/SB 8 speed with 3.92's and is rated to tow 10,340 lbs with a GVWR of 6200 lbs.

From the 2017 towing and payload guide:

All models with 22 inch Tires (s/c TY4) have 6200 lb GVWR

There's your problem, otherwise you'd have 6900 lbs GVWR, 700 lbs more for payload.

I wonder what their reasoning is for that, unless those wheels can't handle the load.

Either way, going by the sticker, I can't even have 4 grown adult men in my truck without being over weight.

Think I'm a little out of everyone else's league here - I just picked up a '17 BH QC 5.7 with 3.21's.

All I have is a 17' Flagstaff pop-up. ~2200 lbs empty, 2800 loaded. And it's just my wife and me. ~300lbs together. And my raft equipment, maybe 220lbs.

My '07 TRX 5.7 did fine w/ it. But haven't tried it out with the new wheels yet. Still on the crummy stock tires.

Is this an issue with other 1/2 ton trucks?
