I have a 2009 Crew Cab 1500 SLT 5.7 with 20" 275 65 20's and 3.92 gears. I have a 28' TT that weighs about 7300 lbs loaded, and 750 lbs tongue weight. Aside from the sag (even with a WDH) the old Dodge pulls it wonderfully. I've recently decided to purchase a different TT that will end up being a little heavier, and decided before I purchase something I better confirm the maximum tow ratings for my 09 are. My research lead me to realize even my existing TT is pushing my ratings to the limit.

This research presented me with nothing but frustration. We all know the 2009 is grossly underrated for how it can really perform. Then for the icing on the cake, with no real changes to the truck, tow ratings were increased drastically for 2010.
Some good reading about these increases.. Here & Here

So legally I suspect I can't just follow the 2010 ratings, but yet the ratings for 2009 are sub-par in my own opinion.

I think my next TT will fall under the 2010 tow ratings since they are roughly 2-3k lbs more than the 09 ratings. What should a guy do?!?!?!

I get the frustration but you really have been maxing out the truck with the current setup. Looking to go heavier? Probably not a great fit.

The drivetrain in your truck is super solid. I'd take your 5.7 Hemi with 3.92 gears and 8spd tranny any day over my 6.4 Hemi, 3.73 gears, 6spd for pulling. It's just the payload in the 1500s that is such a limiting factor.

I still only have the 5 speed tranny. :( I guess it's time to try and find a 2500. I've been looking, but 2500's are slim pickings!
