Bought a 15' SC/SB Hemi tradesman a few month back and its a basic model. it didn't come with a brake controller, but has the hitch and big plug for the brakes. i need one for the dune season to tow my enclosed trailer. should i go with the factory or should i go with some aftermarket one?

I added the OEM controller to my '15 1500 Laramie. It works awesome. Super smooth. Not sure what you're referring to with the anti-sway comment. Some tow vehicles have an electronic anti-sway system. Some trailers do too. Generally a properly loaded trailer with around 13% tongue weight can get by without sway control, unless it's heavy, long and/or has a lot of sail area. You can add an anti-sway hitch for not much money.

Mine has trailer sway control (TSC) on it....

Trailer Sway Control (TSC) – If Equipped
The TSC system uses sensors in the vehicle to recognize
an excessively swaying trailer and will take the appropriate
actions to attempt to stop the sway. The system
may reduce engine power and apply the brake of the
appropriate wheel(s) to counteract the sway of the trailer.
TSC will become active automatically once an excessively
swaying trailer is recognized. No driver action is required.
Note that TSC cannot stop all trailers from
swaying. Always use caution when towing a trailer and
follow the trailer tongue weight recommendations. Refer
to “Trailer Towing” in “Starting and Operating” for
further information. When TSC is functioning, the “ESP
Off Indicator Light” will flash, the engine power may be
reduced and you may feel the brakes being applied to
individual wheels to attempt to stop the trailer from
swaying. TSC is disabled when the ESC system is in the
“Partial Off” or “Full Off” modes.
TSC is only active in the default “ESC On” mode. TSC
can be disabled by pressing the “ESC Off” switch and
entering “ESC Partial Off” mode. It is not active in the
“ESC Partial Off” or “ESC Off” modes. Refer to the ESC
portion of this section for an explanation of the different
ESC operating modes.

Dumb question--how do you tell if your truck has TSC?

All of the rams have it. And as far as the brake controller goes. The biggest thing is to get a progressive controller don't get the time delayed. The factory controller is great Clean install but is expensive plus you have to get it flashed by the dealer after install. With aftermarket controller they have a harness that plugs in directly to your truck under the dash beside the Ebrake. I had a factory one in my 2014 and I now have a aftermarket draw tite and as far as function goes they both work great. The aftermarket style will run you $100-150 with the harness and the OEM is about $300-350 much cleaner and nothing to knock your knee on. I just take mine out when not in use.

I highly recommend the Tekonsha P3 brake controller. I originally used it on my 2014 RAM and transferred it to my 2017 RAM when I traded trucks.

BigBird beat me to it...

The OEM is nice as it is clean and can be seen and adjusted through the steering wheel / Radio.

BUT.... I feel the tekonsha P2 or P3 are far superior in function.

If my truck didnt have it built in from day one i'd be installing the P3.
