Thanks for all the feedback folks...

More info for anyone interested...

- Tires are Cooper Discoverer (almost ready to be replaced) kept around 50psi
- Rear end is 3.55 (according to a VIN search)
- No lift or level... basically stock

We were going to take a long trip around Alberta, 1700km (1000miles) this summer, but we worked out the cost of gas alone to be around $800 in the end (at around $1 per litre) - Strathmore to Cold Lake to Jasper and back to Strathmore.

To make matters worse, we are considering replacing the Coopers with a set of BFK KO2s.

I'll take it easy and try some better gas.

One item... Does using Tow mode save gas? It appears that the truck never gets into 6th gear when in Tow mode.

P.S. My other car is a Fiat 500c :)

stay off Hwy 2 and Hwy 1 which means secondary highways and around Alberta that means you can travel at 90 kmph all day and the only that that will pass you is a John Deere 6500:favorites13: Wife drives a new 500 Sport her second and I still call hers a piece of poo but in jest no I mean it no I kid. Safe travels, I am heading to Southern Ontario but I will fly be there in 4 hours and round trip was right around 400.00 (kilometres approx 6000 as the crow flies before some ******* farmer shoots it out of the sky).

I track all fuel in a spreadsheet on my phone at the pump at every fill up.

towing gvwr 5400 lb camper return trip 240km = 24.62 L/100 KM = 9.54 mpg Tow haul on 7th gear 100 km/h.

Towing Boat 3000 lbs 1 way trip 280 km = 20.56 L/100 KM = 11.42 mpg TH on, 7th gear 100 Km/h

Might do better on last one in some situations with Tow haul off. Generally did not see 8th at all even with TH off. Truck is as signature states.

Will update this summer on non winter blended fuel but highest i've seen is 15.5 MPG, 500 lbs in bed no trailer and -22C outside. Don't even ask about City.

Yes, use tow/haul mode. It may not seem logical, but you may get better mileage when running in a lower gear. You will definitely reduce wear and tear on the transmission and will have more control up and down hills.

8000# TT. Using tow/haul mode in the northeast hills, at best 9 mpg with my 6.5 and the trans gets a workout attempting to hold speed. I try to keep it under 65 because that's the rating of the trailer tires. You really don't want to shred a trailer tire.
