Been driving 2500 pickups for 22 years and have always liked the functionality and look of a full 8' bed. I've driven them for so long as a daily driver and work truck that I'm so used to it. Anyone else prefer 8' crew cabs over 6.5' beds?

If you are working out of it, yes 8' is a must

If not I would roll with a 6.4 bed as it is easier to park

I moved up to an 8' bed from my 6.5 because I had to pull the tailgate off to carry my ATV when pulling the RV.

It really depends what you use it for.
In my case I wouldn't need a big bed specially being the daily driver

Yup, you can get a CC with either. Just the shorter bed is more prevalent.

I prefer the shorter. It's all in how you use it. The 8 would be awesome for the space, but it becomes to much truck for the things I like to do with said truck.

mines a daily driver so short bed for me. I've always had a utility trailer and don't mind towing so anything that big and needs loading, I just trailer it.

I like and always have the 6.5" bed, because I got to fit it in my garage, but it work for me.

A side by side comparison, 8' bed is a 2500, 6'4" bed is a 1500. The bigger bed in nice but makes it parking in some lots cumbersome.

Sorry for the terrible pics, but if you use the bed for anything other than groceries the 8' part is awesome! In the 5th wheel pic i have enough wood in front of the hitch to last a week of camping as well as my weber gas grill, with room to spare behind the hitch for other items. In the gooseneck picture, i have another 40 cases of pergo flooring in the bed of the truck on top of everything on the trailer obviously.

If you do any sort of towing, the added stability of the longer wheel base really comes into play. In a cross wind the truck is way more stable due to the longer wheel base, it also provides a smoother ride overall in my opinion.

My folks run a similar truck (dually crew cab long box) and they have a 60 gallon aux tank / tool box combo in front of his hitch with room to store more items in front of the hitch.

My overall opinion and impression is I will not own another shortbox, just not worth it. Sure it's easier to park, but i always park in the back away from anyone anyways. The added length to get full sheets of plywood, drywall ect inside is huge...

Also, i've never heard anyone say they regretted buying a long box, but you hear a number of comments from short box owners wishing they had gone long box...

It all depends on your use, I live near downtown Little Rock and would not consider a long bed. The CCSB will be a PITA as it is. My pops hauls the 5er to camp, and horses all over the country, he wouldn't be caught dead in anything but a CCLB.

an 8 foot bed is purely for work convince. I got sick of the 6.5 bed because it was to darn short almost EVERY time i used it.

have been driving mine for just a few months now. parking really isn a problem. just plan ahead further in advanced in tight situations. look were you want to go earlier and you set yourself up for success.

what is hard is turning around 180. you need LOTS of room.

I will never get anything else besides a crew cab 8 foot bed again.

and let me add that its like anything else. you will get used to it and it wont be hard anymore. sometimes I go from my truck to my wife's explorer and BOY is that challenging.

i have had it in a parking structure too. just go to the top and take the elevator down. no bid deal. i promise that everyone Will let you go first around the corner when they see you coming and they will move out of your way if they are in it. not saying to drive like an ass and push people around, they just know who needs to go first. and same goes for down town city driving. they all kind relax and let you do your thing.

just be nice.:naughty:

comes down to what you need, if you need to haul longer items get the 8', if not the 6'5" bed is still plenty useful and easier to park.

If it weren't for circumstances out of my Realm of Control I'd have an 8' CC 6.4 4.10 with the maxcare and cough up the Benji deductible until it devalues enough to justify the upgrade. Damn adequate machine that doesn't break the bank.

I like the 8' on the farm, the 6'4" in the country, and suffer with 5'7" in the suburbs.

Not to change subjects but there's a company that streches the frame and adds a 8ft bed to the mega cab it is super long.
