I have a 2015, 1500 4x4 Crew Cab that I purchased used. There were no manuals. I only bought it because it was actually a leftover that had been sold from one dealership to another and only had 500 miles on it and I got one helluva deal. Anyway, I do not know the towing capacity of the truck and running a VIN decoder seems to get me more confused than before. There's two stickers in the door jamb, but they have the same info only one is for 17" wheels (which is what I have) and one is for 20" wheels. I have run the VIN decoder on several different sites and it comes back as everything from the V6 with the 8 speed trans and 3.21 axle to the 5.7 with 6 speed trans and both the 3.55 or 3.92. I did find a RPM chart, but am not sure if it's actually accurate for determining what rear axle I have. At roughly 75mph I'm running about 2000 RPM (from what I've found, that's what the 3.92 should run on the 6spd with 5.7). Not concerned about my gas mileage, but I can find no concrete material that tells me how much I can tow or what rear axle I truly have.

The truck on the title is listed as a Tradesman "Express", but when I run the VIN it comes back as either a Tradesman or an ST.

I'm confused. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks William!

Thank you so much! After running it on there, it shows my truck is actually a SXT. Doesn't show what axle it has, but it is the most accurate for everything that is actually on the truck. And it gives me another rabbit hole to travel down, but that's a good thing.

Usually there is a sticker on the axle that will give you the gear ratio.

Further down the rabbit hole

With going further down the rabbit hole... I found that on the top of the window sticker I got from the VIN it states "This vehicle is manufactured to meet specific Canadian requirements. This vehicle is Not Manufactured for sale or registration outside of Canada." Ummmmm... I'm in Ottawa, but not Canada.

When you're looking at the window sticker for your vin, the axle ratio and engine you actually have will be in the right column under "options". All the features in the left column are standard for the base trim level of your truck with no options

it does show the gears, its likely on the left side just under the standard equipment just above interior features.

It is the Crew Cab 4x4 with short box. I see it as 3.55 or 3.92. Either way, you guys have been a great help.

Email Chrysler/ram customer service with your vin.

They will send you a complete spec/build sheet for your truck.

maybe that "ramcares" rep can provide that assistance.

I'd bet it's 3.92. 2000 rpm with my 3.21 is 90 mph.

Never mind. 3.55 is probably right. I thought they were all 8 speeds.
