Hey guys. I have a '15 ram 1500 v6 4x4. From my understanding, I'm really not going to be able to pull much more then 5-6,000 pounds with this truck. Do I really need anything bigger then a receiver like this:
https://www.amazon.com/TYGER®-2003-...TF8&qid=1479738471&sr=8-2&keywords=curt+13333

There are larger receivers I have seen that are still class 3 that have an additional bar and frame connection. Curt sells one as an example that they call "exposed" vs "concealed" like the one listed. is this really needed? All I am looking to tow is a motorcycle trailer, double axel enclosed trailer (moving into a new house in the next few weeks), and potentially a smallish flats boat in the future.

opinions?

The Curt bolt on will be fine for your use. I have used the Mopar bolt on hitches for years and I pull about 5,000 lbs.

I wouldn't trust the bumper either, hence why I am getting a receiver.

Both the ones I posted are listed as class 3 receivers despite having additional tubing and mounting points....

edit: I think I figured it out now. All of the manufacturer sites kept listing both styles as having the same ratings, capacities, etc. One is weight carrying and one is weight distributing. I'm thinking it wont really matter for me as I shouldn't really ever be trailering too much weight. Biggest thing I could ever see towing would be my project e30...hmm, now I wonder if I should have ordered the weight distributing one now...

That's the receiver I have on my 1500. Then again I only (or have only) towed a 6' trailer with my golf cart on it.....or mulch on it.

09 and up trucks the rear bumper is just a mask it holds no weight your bolting the mopar hitch the a reinforcement behind the actual bumper.

Is there any advantage to moving up to something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/CURT-13374-C...42188&sr=8-12&keywords=2015+ram+1500+receiver

When I compare them side by side on curt's website I don't even see a change in capacities...I'm sure I'm missing something.

when I had my 1500, for about $20 more, I just went with a 2 inch class V hitch so I'd never have to think about my hitch, all I had to do is worry about the truck's capacity, nothing else.
