We're looking to buy a RV trailer and so i reached out to get an estimate from a local dealer to swap out my 3.21 gears to 3.92 on a 2015 limited 4x4. They just cam back with the following:
"It would be $3,000 at a minimum and could be MUCH more depending on what other parts are needed."

Depending on what other parts are needed??? Shouldn't they know what's needed? Does this seem high to anyone else? I've asked around various forums, including this one and the highest mentioned was around $2,200.

Anyone know a good dealer or shop in Delaware that's able to do the job right. Would like to get additional estimates.

Thanks.

I just order 4.10's from Moe's with an LSD and the master install kit, my truck is 2wd and just to install what I bought is going to cost $450 on top of the $900 for the hardware.

while researching all this, I read all over that $2500 "seems" to be average for the 4x4's.

I hope you aren't doing this to be able to legally tow more, as in a bigger camper. Changing the gears will not change the legal limit of what you can tow.

And yes, that is about right, maybe even a little low for these axles, and you did ask a dealership. Figure $400 or so in labor per axle, plus gears @ another $400-$500 per axle, all X2 if 4WD.

They said depending, since until they actually get in there, they don't know if the bearings or axles or what will need to be replaced due to wear or problems.

naw more like, I'd like to 'get off the line' without having to floor it, or going over some of our large bridges without rolling backwards, aka Skyway Bridge ;) I have 3.55's now, previous trucks had 3.92's and I really really miss that.

I am under the current max limits if just barely.

the newer 1500's are more expensive because the front gears are welded in place, not bolted. so in order to go to the 3.92 you have to swap the entire front end...not just the gears.

Understand......but...

1) skyway bridge ain't that bad (was born & raised in central florida)...been across & under it many times going fishing

2) personally not sure the change from 3.55 to 3.92 would be worth it financially for the reasons that have been listed above. 4.10 maybe, 4.56 sure...but 3.92...ahhh

mpg shouldn't change much, as I get roughly the same as the 3.55 guys do (and sometimes even better).....but that initial slug of money....ouch !

I just bought a very well built pair of axles for my jeep with ARBs front & rear, axle trusses front & rear, 4 wheel disc brakes, axle shafts that are rated for 40" tires, and many other goodies for a little less than what you are gonna pay at that dealer for just gears.

Good Luck !!

Not 100% true.........some MY '13's were welded but late '13 into '14 they are not. Pretty sure someone on this forum verified, not sure where the thread is.

Thrashie isn't the OP, he just chimed in with his own experience; he just ordered 4.10s :happy107:

Once again though, it does not matter if they are welded or not because you cant buy the ring/pinion by itself. You still have to purchase a complete front housing in order to replace the gears on all the 2012+ front axles.

pretty much gotta keep it floored on the way up skyway

previous 2 trucks had 3.92 and this one came with 3.55 and the difference is noticeable.

I just got 4.10's from Moe's :)
