I have hauled 2 atvs in my ram. The first just a small TRX250EX. Weighs maybe 315lbs bout 5 and a half to 6 feet long. No problem at all barely even noticed it was in the bed.....almost like hauling a fat chick if your in to that.
The 2nd one was a 750bruteforce. Its over 6'5. It didn't really sit on the tailgate but its still to long for the tailgate to clear the tires and close. I definitely noticed it back there as its probably 700lbs. I also had a lot of body roll. I hauled them in gear, park breaks on, and a zip tie around the front break levers with 2 ratchet straps through the frames of both.

The parking brake is a good idea, but IMO the ratchet strap through the frame is not doing much. I usually use four straps: three that hook from the forward hooks on the truck to frame points preventing the atv from rolling back, and one from the rear hook to the frame to prevent it from smashing in the back of my head should I get into a head-on collision.

I am **** about securing loads because I plan for the worst case scenario. I can't even start to imagine the lawsuit that would follow a load falling out of the back of my truck.

Ratchet straps are so cheap now there is no excuse to use at least four 500 pound working strength straps. I just picked some up to help move some garage equipment and it cost me 20 bucks for 4 straps.

Concerning the sway, I installed airbags in my truck to help with sag when I had the car trailer hooked up. I put about 900 pounds of toolboxes, tires, jacks, etc. in the bed and cab and found that adding some air in the bags (20psi) was extremely helpful in keeping the truck level and eliminating sway. That was the first time I have used them without a trailer and they were helpfull there too.

I was gonna say a set of $79 Airlift 1000s would cure your sway and sag issues with loads. LOVE MINE!!!

I hauled this from Fort Macmurray Alberta to Princeton B.C for a guy. I was going that way anyways and had a two place sled trailer with only one sled on it.

I stopped to play in Edmonton and killed my sled so I left it and the trailer behind and loaded his on the truck.

I don't know what I weighed in at but I must have been close to maxed out. The slip tank (100 gallon) and tool box are both full plus all my gear.

It had a little bit of body roll but not bad considering. The biggest difference I noticed when I unloaded the sled in Princeton and continued on to Vancouver Island is after I lost the weight I didn't stick to the icy roads as well.....now I want a sled deck lol
