I am new to the forum and am hoping someone can help me with a question. I tried searching around so I hope this topic hasn't previously been covered in this forum. I have a 1999 Ram 1500 Laramie RWD with 5.9L engine. It only has 140,000 miles and runs great with a recently rebuilt transmission. I occasionally use this truck in my business and have a situation coming up where I will need to carry a piece of equipment that weighs about 1750 pounds. I have found several sources online that say this truck can safely haul around 2400 pounds but I thought I would see if I could find someone with some real world experience. What do you think? Can I carry it in the bed or will I be better off renting/buying a trailer? Thanks in advance.

1750# is likely well over the payload for that truck and the headlights will be pointing at the sky. I'd rent a trailer.

Which cab? I had a 99 1500 quad with 4WD. I could put around 1000 lbs in the bed and it drove like a boat on water. I didn't have specs for the truck as the sticker was worn off, but I figured it wasn't more than the 1400 or so lbs of the new trucks. My 2012 Ram 1500 Quad 4WD stickered at 1500 lbs payload. I would get a trailer for that load.

I would tow that load vs. haul it. Your payload capacity for a 1500 is a LOT less than towing capacity. That load could do damage to your suspension if hauled in the bed and the truck would be unsafe to drive.

Thank you everyone for your help. After some research I found out that renting a U-Haul 5'x8' trailer costs less than $20 a day and solved my problem.
