Was reading around about how often people are changing oil...came across a fair amount of people using a heavier oil..

I read about mds

Just wondering what oil everyone is using and if your towing often would you recommend anything more than 5w 20 I tow about 4 to5 k 300 miles a week. .so almost all the time..

Also might as well ask how often is everyone changeing their oil.

5-30 full synthetic will do good and MDS is not effected and neither is warranty as manual states it can be uses, pennzoil platinum or ultra is Rams preferred oil and carries all the required ratings

I don't tow on a daily basis but there are 2 maintance schedules in your owners manual I would follow the more severe or what ever they call it schedule. And stick with a manufacures recommendation for the oil. As rodram stated the newer rams not sure witch year but it states note 5w30 meeting fiats specs may be used when 5w20 is not available. But my 2010 manual doesn't state that but my 14 did.

When I changed our oil for the year (we only do 5-6K a year, mostly towing) I used a 50/50 mix of Amsoil signature 5W20 and 5W30. I hope it provides more engine protection.

Is there a reason you mixed the weights? I am just curious if there is something driving that decision.

I'm guessing he mixed 30 with 20 to make it a little thicker ...but not all the way to 30w...I considered this..but didn't know if it worked like that

Can't speak much for in light duty but we use Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer on heavy duty applications at work, works great for heavy duty diesels and diffs, just don't use too much since it is very thick.

It was based on info presented by Burla and others in the oil threads, suggesting the 20W might not provide long-term protection when working hard. Because we use the truck almost exclusively for towing (so it rarely has an opportunity to go into ECO mode and therefore MDS) and I keep my vehicles a long time, I couldn't see a downside to the 50/50/

I tow often have always used 0W-20 or 5W-20 and have 125k or so on the 09. No big deal IMO it has millions of miles of tests on 5W-20.
