How big of a drop hitch should I get?

Ended up getting the B&W Stow & Go 7" Drop hitch. This should be the last hitch I buy. Was on the fence between the 5" and the 7". Happy I got the 7" as it'll give me flexibility for lower trailers with coupler heights under 18". e7b1a001cff0b865e3d2c05e2b56dee6.jpg

Just wanted to show that with a 4" lifted truck, the 7" drop has plenty of room to spare.

It's currently at the 5" drop height with a trailer coupler height of 18". So the 5" drop would have worked fine as well. But prefer the 7" since the bottom of the hitch is actually about even with the lower rotated ball on the B&W tri-ball, so really no downside in getting the extra 2" drop. 508472d1551d8341ec79c7745be7a435.jpg

yeah your right Matt the kit did not raise the back 3in. Im looking at the B&W Stow and Go dual ball hitch. Just having a hard time pulling the trigger on a drop hitch over $200.

I had a B&W tow & stow I think 6" drop adjustable on my '99. I really liked it, no issues at least up to 6-7k pounds. Probably was overkill for my truck to be honest but worked well. So long as it fits your weight requirements I'd recommend it.

Edit: Looks like you got one, still recommend to others looking. ;)

2012 2500 with 1 1/2” rear lift and an 8 inch drop is barely enough sometimes. Id say get as much adjustment as possible.

I'm new to the forum, so if this is not the correct platform, my apologies.

I recently purchased my pullrite 5th wheel auto hitch with a rating of 24k for my dodge ram 3500 (short bed). I think I have used it 5 or 6 times. I have since upgraded to a truck with a 8 foot bed and no longer need the auto hitch. If anyone is interested in purchasing a slightly used auto hitch please contact me at ….. [email protected]

I know this is an older post but just adding in my experience for people who may bring this up in the future when searching.

2016 Power Wagon, so a couple inches taller than a stock 2500 4x4.

18' tandem axle 8k lbs. car hauler requires a 6" drop. For reference my previous Chevy 2500HD 4x4 required a 2" drop, and a Chevy 1500 4x4 required a 0" drop hitch to sit level with this trailer.

A smaller 12' utility trailer requires 8" drop, with the same height difference as mentioned above with the other trucks.
