How hard is it to replace the rear springs?

I tried searching and the best I could find was a video from Tuff Truck that really doesn't show you much.

It looks like they lifted by the frame and undid the shocks and lowered the rear diff until the springs come right out. Is it really that easy?

Yes. It's super easy. Look in the DIY section for adding a rear spacer. Same concept just swap your spring instead of installing a spacer

Its really really easy. Your steps are dead on. Lift the rear and put the rear axle on jack stands, removed the tires, unbolted both shocks and have a high lift jack under the tow hitch. Be sure to secure the front tires so it doesn't roll. I was able to pull them both at the same time.

If you plan on replacing 'em, you should throw on some riderite airbags too :) It'll help extend the life, make heavy loads a bit easier to manage, and are dirt cheap!

Air bags don't like our climate much. Everyone I know that has put them in has them leak in under two years. I bought some TT-1223V's to help with towing as they will give a 35% capacity increase without changing stock ride height and are designed for trucks that won't be loaded 100% of the time. The reviews look good so I hope they work as they say.

oh man, sorry to hear that. Can't argue with the springs you got, i've never tried them, down in texas airbags seem to work well though, hope they work out for ya. You should get some sag pictures of after a load with the old springs, and after a load with new springs, i'd be inclined to enjoy seeing that :)

Don't think you'll be disappointed, I have the 1223v's on mine. When I hooked up my TT with the stock springs, it would sag about 3 inches, with the 1223's, only about 1 1/2. It also helped with the porpoising on the wonderful roads up and down the east coast

I got the springs in this morning. I used R.L.K's method with the exception of not undoing the sway bar end links. Undoing the brake line brackets on the frame certainly gave the brake lines more slack so they didn't look like they were hanging on them at all. Thanks for the tip R.L.K.

I did get excited and forgot to measure the stock stance before I yanked the old springs out which was not too bright. I have a stance now of 37 1/2" up front and 39 1/2" in the back, so a 2" rake which seems about right. I measure to the ground, center of the wheel, to the bottom edge of the fenders.

My trailer is at a storage lot so I haven't had a chance to hook it up and check the sag yet.

Any pics with the new springs installed?

It looks pretty much the same rake as stock.

yup, 1223v were one of the best upgrades I did to my 1500. felt like it helped unloaded handling as well.

When I switched to 1223v, I also added a 1" spacer. The net result was an increase of about 1/3". The ride is great, but still a little more sag when towing than I was hoping for. I may still augment with bags.
