The wife and I are searching for small RVs that I can tow behind the truck. Being a V6, the tow rating is 3300lbs which is seriously limiting our selection. That's OK, we can get what we need and stay under 3300lbs.

I looked at one that would have been absolutely perfect, but it had a dry weight of 3300lbs, which would have been way over by the time we added water and supplies, so I was a bit bummed. So close, but no cigar.

Then a Honda Minivan came into the dealership towing the exact RV that we were looking at. I was kind of confused. They had said that it was too heavy for my Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, but a minivan is towing one. So I had to ask.

Turns out, the Honda minivan has a 4500lb tow rating........

I'm not happy right now.

Oops, posted in the wrong generation forum........ Mine is a 2004.
Lol yeah I was thinking the new v6 has a pretty decent tow rating! Maybe upgrade time?

The uniformed salesman gave me bad info.
No offense, but the ultimate responsibility belongs with YOU to know what you are buying. Relying on a salesman is an incredibly stupid decision to make. Their loyalty is not to you, but rather with the commission they stand to make off of you. They won't be in the passenger seat with you when your truck is struggling to climb a grade

Yeah in my experience a lot of the salespeople don't know **** from sand about what they're selling. I had one try to talk me out of the 3.92 rear end on my 2014 Hemi because "you won't notice a difference between the two". He'd clearly never driven the two lol!

My salesman told me I don't "need" 4.10 gears. How the hell does he know what I need?

another told me to get a 4x4 since they stick to the road surface better. A cross wind that would push a 4x2 off the road won't move a 4x4...

I subsequently just bought my truck on the internet.

as for the OP, I'll have to agree with whats been said, time for an upgrade. Wife's Tacoma tows over 8000 lbs. just saying...

either way, good luck what ever you end up with.

Yeah, the OP should have known better. 3300 lbs is pathetic. IMO, there is really no reason to have a V6 in any half ton pickup truck. Sure they make sense in the ford Rangers and toyotas, nissans, etc but not in anything bigger. I know some of you will get your panties in a bunch as you drive one and feel it is fine for your needs. That's great but to me it is foolish.

It is especially foolish when you look at the cost of those toyota mid size trucks with a V6, in comparison to a 1500 hemi.

I've had 2 pickups with 6's and one wasn't even a V6[emoji12]. There is a reason for them and that's why they're still made. I see more reason for a 6 in a pickup than some people's reason's for buying a 4x4 and lowering it[emoji33]!
But to not know what your looking at, and what you need in a vehicle is on you. Not a salesperson trying to move vehicles and make money.
My current truck wasn't a "planned" purchase. I didn't do any looking. I just wanted back in a pickup. I called a used salesperson and said I need XX and X call me when you have one. In any color but RED.

See how well that worked?[emoji15]

You had me thinking "Shady is smokin' something good" then I saw you're in a Cummins. Nicely done, Sir.
