I hate to bring this thread back up but is there anything reliable out there for the actual tow ratings on an R/T. I have a 2013 and have the ram truck page up. If I go by that I can only tow a really light trailer (2,200lbs once calculations are done). My manual simply states the class IV hitch is rated for 11,000lbs which is about right. It then goes on to say the standard tow rating is 5,000lbs and the Max is 10,000lbs. Found another site and the rating is different there too.
I am looking at a new travel trailer that is 3,700lbs dry and a max weight of 7,000lbs. I will never put that much stuff in the trailer or the truck. The trailer tongue weight is 320 dry so close to 500lbs with propane, battery, etc. I will only ever put around 1500lbs max in the trailer but I am trying to figure if I would go over the rating or not.
We are planning on getting a new tow vehicle in the future but that is a little ways out. Anyway, the towing capacity is driving me nuts. \
As for wear and tear, most of the towing will be somewhat local (no more than an hour away) and once a year for a longer trip. If I need to get a lighter trailer there is another one that will work but this one has the exact features we are looking for.
I have never had this issue with a tow vehicle before. I know I shouldn't have bought an R/T to tow with and that was not the intention. The tow vehicle we had we needed to get rid of due to problems and just want to wait to buy another one.
