Hauled our 11k fifth wheel from ne pa through Virginia to Tennessee. Came back up through Kentucky and Ohio. A lot of hills. The 6.4 did pretty well. 3.73 gears and on tow haul I averaged 8.4 hand calculated on 87. Running 60-70 most of the time. I'm happy with it.

I'd be happy with that mileage.

My bumper pull is about same weight, similar truck, similar MPG. Although, we either got our trucks or campers switched. My truck is white, camper bright red. Lol.

Looks pretty there. Enjoy your vacation.

Not too shabby! So you kept it in T/H all the time? If there was a flat stretch did you ever let it grab 5th gear?

We just came from MI to NM towing a 35' Solaire and the computer says the total 1600 miles averaged 8.6 mpg. Spent about 50% of those miles in 4th gear, tow/haul on and cruise set at 64. Once we got into NM I stopped using cruise so the truck wouldn't keep winding itself out to maintain speed.

good to hear that it tow acceptably for you. I dont want to make this another oil thread but what were you average pressures and oil temps when running at highway speeds? What oil? just really interested as 11,000 lbs is a good size load for our trucks.

thanks.

I was running Mobil 1 on the way out. Pressures ranged between 51 and 56 depending obviously on engine speed. Normal cruising was right at 51-52. Temps ranged between 219 with a high of 240 during a steep ascent. I had it changed at a local dealership the day after we pulled into town so I assume I'm running the pennzoil now.

Trailer weighs right around 8000 kitted out with about 10 gallons in the fresh water tank.

Temps and pressures sound great.

How about the O.P.?

These are similar to what I see towing at 11,000. Amsoil for 1st change, pennzoil ultra platinum since.

I was running pennzoil. I don't have numbers on pressure and temp. I have the 7" cluster and have it set with the oil and trans temp gauges. They stayed where they do when there is no load. As did the water temp and oil pressure.

My gas mileage thus far from Rio Grande Balley to Gulfport MS. Has been a low of 9.3 to 10.9mpg. This is with my Ram1500 5.7 hemi with the 3.21 gears. I am maxed out with a total weight of truck and trailer at 13800. If I had the 3.92 gears I would gain an extra 1200lbs. I am running between 58-64 mph

Up date on trip

My gas mileage towing from Rio Grande Balley to the Golden Isles GA has been a low of 9.3 to 10.9mpg. This is with my 2015 Ram1500 5.7 hemi with the 3.21 gears. I am maxed out with a total GCWR weight of truck and trailer at 13800 lbs even though I am below weight on GVWR and GAWR on truck. If I had the 3.92 gears I would gain an extra 1200lbs. I am running between 58-64 mph. I had very little sway and did very well stopping. The truck had plenty of power.

Just completed an 8100 mile trip from Colorado to Newfoundland and back. I also have the same truck as yours with the crew cab. EVIC mileage was all over the place from 7's to 11's but the actual hand calculated mileage ended up to be just over 9 for the entire trip. Bumper pull trailer weights 8000 Lbs. loaded and speeds did not exceed 65. Seems anything over about 55 MPH the wind resistance really starts to take a toll. Some roads where the limit was 55 I could get about 10.5 hand calculated.

We're about 2700 miles into our round trip between MI and NM. Our last leg home will be this Saturday after we spend 2 days in Sullivan MO.

Right now I'm sitting at just under 10 for the entire trip. That's with the speed set right around 65. I'll get the average speed tomorrow.

So far the only negative thing I can think of between the 6.4 and the transmission is the programming for kickdown. Many times it will wait and go from 4 to 2 rather than going down into 3. I've found its best to stay out of the cruise and feather the throttle on the whoop de doos. Not only was I better able to keep the mileage numbers up, but I was able to maintain speed without winding the engine out.

I have also noticed mine downshifting from 4th to 2nd while towing. I prefer to downshift it manually when I see a hill coming up so it will run in 3rd when I want it to.

I was a little off on my numbers.

Mind you not all this time the trailer was attached.

Here's what we are pulling.

And some parking lot carnage from somewhere around OK City. Wish they'd have left a note.

Glad to hear the truck is towing well. Sorry to see the awful carnage. That's the kind of thing that makes my blood boil more than it should. Takes all kinds doesn't it.
