Hey guys, new member here. I just picked up 2017 Hemi 5.7 yesterday, used with 14k miles. I came from a Tundra that we had many problems with, 1 of those being brakes locking up on us towing our Freedom Express 257(the last straw). I settled for the 5.7 because I got a really good deal from dealer which sold us the Tundra also. What should I expect with the 2500? Our TT is roughly 5500lbs. The thing feels like a beast coming from the Tundra. We want to make it up to the Smokey Mountains soon for a trip, about a 7-8 hour trip, never felt good making that trip with the Tundra. This is my 1st HD truck and love it so far!

Awesome! I think you'll love the Ram. I had a friend come from a Tundra. He said the only thing he misses in the rear roll down window. Other than that, he said he can't even compare it to the Tundra.

He is Asian too! LOL I tease him all the time about that. Now he got his wife from a Camry to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I love teasing him.

Welcome to the club. You'll love it.

A 2500 will barely feel 6000 pounds. If there is any one thing that you could call a "weakness" on the gas 2500's its the transmission ratios. It is really geared for the Cummins and just ported over to the gas trucks. Not that big of a deal though and you probably wouldnt even notice it unless you towed something really heavy. What trim level and axle ratio did you get?

Nice thing is since it is a 5.7 you have acsess to a ton of aftermarket parts - only down side is the best bang for the buck for you is now expensive and that's a tune - But ur truck will tow that trailer with ease.

I agree. I loved when I had my 5.7 truck, I adjusted the shift schedule with a superchips tune, the shift schedule alone made it feel like it had 200 more horsepower! Was insane!

Thanks guys. It's the SLT trim with 3.73 axle ratio. The payload capacity of my Tundra was 1295lbs(lol) vs over 2200lbs on this truck, that was a major factor in decision as well. We are taking a trip this weekend up to the lake, only about an hour away but really excited to see how the truck handles compared to my old truck.

Can anyone tell me what tuner to use with a 2017 2500HD Dodge Ram with a 5.7 Hemi? Bulldog and Superchip brings up nothing. Seems all we can do from about 2014 to 2017 is cold air intake and exhaust. Doesn't look like they have come out with a tuner for the 6 speed tranny yet...

Diablo with custom tunes from hemi fever or jay greene-
You have to get a pcm cause urs is locked- gonna be expensive-
You can
Exhaust"headers all the way back if you want"
CAI- big variety
Ported throttle body-
Lots of guys are loving the "pedal comander" it helps with drive ability - makes the truck feel faster but it doesn't void out warranty or give more hp- just helps with the throttle lag-

Dollar for dollar a pcm swap with custom tuning is prolly still the best mod.i belive they can do some trans tuning as well which will really help-

There is a vendor on here" moes performance" you can check there website-they have all the goodies you could want/need.

Yes youll def do a lot better if the Tundra only had 1200 pounds of payload lol.

Does anyone know why the 5.7 trucks have less payload than the 6.4 trucks. I dont get it.

I agree, that makes no sense. Payload should be the same. My truck has over 3100 lbs of payload

Congrats on the new ride. I sure do love mine , that's for sure! Favorite truck I've owned to date

If I had to guess it is simply marketing. They want to upsell the 6.4L. The 5.7 would be more than capable of the 10000lbs GVWR. Weight on the truck is easier to move than weight on the ball.

If I had to do it over again and the price difference was significant, I am certain I would be just as happy with the 5.7. There's a whole pile of them in our neck of the woods pulling goose neck cattle trailers easily.

My guess would be LT tires from the factory, as opposed to P tires.... Hence the load rating increase

I'm not sure exactly why they do the ratings this way but I'm pretty sure the difference in payload is the difference in GVWR. I believe the highest you can get with a 5.7 is 9000lbs v. the 10000lbs GVWR on the 6.4. So 3200 lbs in the 6.4 drops to 2200 in the 5.7 simply because you lost 1k of GVWR. It's all the legal bs so check your local laws and load up accordingly. The 5.7 should handle the 3200lbs no problem but you won't be within the rated capacity. If your local jurisdiction (and any jurisdiction you'll be traveling through) doesn't care, then load her on up. If they do, follow your door sticker. I used to put 3k plus in the back of my '95 2500 with the 5.9 Magnum and it had no troubles so the newer 5.7 should handle it like nothing.

What up juvenator haven't seen you post much since the kid was born. How's it going? Does the Pedal commander live up to all the hype?

Haha between my son and the house I just bought I've been a busy 23yr old [emoji28]. That and I've become quite involved in the Dodge Ram Facebook page that I'm a moderator on. Oh! And the pedal commander does live up to the hype, drivability is greatly improved and no more spongy feeling from the gas pedal, touch it and you're off! Trying to keep up appearances here also though [emoji16]53c1ea9cf0493eaac96329c97a836b5f.jpg93781272422ee6855ca0faf6115e87bf.jpg
