Does the 17" stock tire have enough ply to tow a 4000 lb trailer ? Around 500 lb tongue weight

Yes. Air towards max. You're still way under payload with that setup.

X2- Yes. The rated payload/tow rating is applied with all the stock equipment installed.

Even the Pentastar V6 with `17's wouldn't struggle with a 4,000lb trailer.

Also, does I need some air lifting or support like the air lift 1000 with a trailer of this weight ?

I wouldn't think so. Hook up and pull it. If you feel you need airlift, you can always add it.

^ Agreed. Try it once and see; your worst case scenario is ugly sag, but it is nothing that will hurt the truck.

My camper is just under 4000 lbs but I think my tongue weight is more like 600 lbs because it's a single axle trailer.

Anyway, the tongue weight is no issue at all. I do use an Equalizer Brand weight distribution hitch though. That's because I wouldn't tow any full height trailer without the the sway control that the Equalizer offers and the weight distribution takes some of the rear drop away.

Also, I only have the 4.7
the 4.7 is the newer 4th gen one though that has 320 HP and over 300 lbs torque. With my light camper the Ram stays nice and cool up steep grades even in 90º heat.

Should not even need a weight distribution hitch at that weight. If you have the stock tires they might be a little spongy but will work fine.

Oh true, you can do fine with that weight without a WD hitch. But it always helps. Even bumps and dips in the road cause a lot less bounce in the rear with a WD hitch.

It's one of those things that's really nice to have at lower weight campers and a necessity with higher weight campers. Kind of like tuners and even Hemis aren't needed, but certainly nice to have.

Good, thank you for the information

I didn't needed wd Hitch with my sierra and my actual trail since the Hi-Lo are low.

But I planning to change it for a " normal " trailer and I never towed it with my ram .

I guess a wd Hitch will be not bad with a higher trailer and the ram.

4000 lbs on these trucks is like packing in some groceries. Truck won't even now its there. I hook up to 7000 lbs all the time. All stock now worries

I haven't used a WD hitch yet. May be awesome but if you are loaded correctly all is well. Just check state reg on trailer brake requirements. Most of the ones I have seen require them at 3000 lbs or more
