Just got back from an 1800 to 2000 mile trip. NY to SC and back towing a 5000# travel trailer.
Ran in 4th gear most of the time on the interstates unless there was an obvious long down hill run. About half was on two lane roads all in 4th.
Truck claims average 11.1 mpg for trip, hand figured I got 10.7
Transmission consistently 143 to 147 degrees in ambient 60 to 75 degree temps. I did hit 179 when I was stuck in a back up for 45 minutes.
Totally stock suspension with WDH and sway bar, about 300 # in the box.
Very positive experience!
