First time user found some interesting posts on here. I have a 2014 Ram Laramie 4x4 manufacture site says the max. trailer weight is 7850#. Does anyone on here pull a toyhauler that is greater than the manufacture recommendation? My truck came equipped with the brake controller and hitch and oil coolers. I'm guessing total trailer weight will be around 9000# loaded.

Toy haulers are not 1/2 ton friendly. There heavy on the hitch you'll be riding on the bumps with that trailer, you really need a 3/4 for that trailer.

For some reason, I just flashed on one of those "Hey, Hold my beer & watch this!" Video's.

Seriously, I would not recommend it either.
Under no circumstance would you want your loved ones, in the truck with you, under that scenario.

Towing that much with a 1/2 ton is over your max, it's unsafe and it will tear up your truck.

As many have said here, don't do it.

I have a 2015 ram 1500 Bighorn c.c. My 31 foot tt weighs out fully loaded between 7200-7600lbs. My truck tow max is 8100 lbs. I have a great WD hitch and sway control and it is rough when it is very windy 20mph. I would not do it in your shoes and I am in the line if I should have a heavier truck. The 5.7 hemi and 8 sped tranny does give plenty of power, though.

OP, what are the specs on your truck? 6 or 8 speed, rear end ratio? End of the day, that's a lot of trailer for ANY 1/2 ton, can't imagine what your tongue weight is..........

As info, according to Ram's site, my 2014 CC Laramie 4x4, 8 speed, 3.92, 6800 lbs GVWR is rated at 9,900 lbs max trailer weight, though I wouldn't put that much behind this truck!

EDIT: from what I can see looking at the Ram bodybuilder, it looks like you have 3.21's or 3.55's depending on which tranny..........either way I wouldn't tow that toy hauler with what you currently have.

Don't do it. It will tear up your truck, and endanger everyone you share the road with.

Yer pin weight will be greater than yer payload rating. I'd bet a month of paydays it'd be north of #1400. I'd pull it. Across the yard. Once. Maybe.

Upgrade your Tires, Springs, maybe Shocks.

Load range E, for stiffness. Helps reduce that walking on water balloons ride, when wind or sway picks up. Stiffer or stronger springs really lehlps too.

Double sway bars, on the the hitch. So they got to fight each, before they fight the truck.

Reason I always tried to stay at 75% of my max limits. Just made things less Holy Cow we are gong to die. WHen you must get to yoru limits, nice to have all that stuff adn have it dialed in , right.

Luck to you, sir.

I have double sway bars and I will upgrade the tires when it is time to replace them. I am going to change my coils to the ttc 1210 or ttc1211 not sure which one yet

Making your truck more stable just to tow close to the max isn't going to do you any good if you can't stop what your towing.

The brakes on my truck and trailer work great, thank goodness. The brake controller is set up great.

I pull an enclosed 20' and loaded it is upwards of 9000 lbs I do have 3.92's and I have the Air Lift 88365 LoadLifter 5000 ULTIMATE Air Spring Kit. It maybe a little overkill but it is one of the best things I have done to the truck anyway 900 lbs tongue weight or so this bag kit no equalizer 10 psi and it sits level. I have plenty of stopping power. And to be honest your trailer should have brakes at that kinda weight and should be competent enough to add the extra required braking power. I used to agree with the philosophy of not running close to the max capability of your vehicle. But This truck is crazy awesome and 100 times better than any other truck I have had. BTW my truck rated for 10,900 lbs. I live out west and pull through mountain passes to get any where and have never felt under powered or like I am underbraked (my new word of the day). Don't get me wrong make sure you have the capability both truck and driver ability, because not everyone should be allowed to pull a trailer. But don't underestimate to ability of this truck it is only a 1500 because of its badges.

Something to ponder. If something were to go wrong while towing, the authorities won't care what a great truck this is. They will only care that you were 1000 lbs. over your weight limit.

9000lbs+ behind a 1500 is sketchy. who wants to tow a trailer on the edge of their seat because the trailer is pushing the truck around? if its a one time thing ok but to do it regularly is beating yourself up.

I am 1900 lbs under my weight limit and it is more stable then a number of my 3/4ton trucks I have had in the past, and has better brakes. Again make sure you are within your ability.
