so I got asked to tow a small camper to a lake about 45 minutes away. Half will be highway, other half will be secondary roads. I really don't want to take my stuff apart ( wd hitch and sway brackets ) to hook up his camper for a one way trip. How bad will it be?? Specs are below with what I have to tow with. It's a prowler TT maybe 20' long.

I wouldn't sweat it too much, long as the brakes work and you don't get crazy with the speed..

Should be ok. Might feel a little loose in the front end. Not too bad. Like BlkZrx said, watch your speed. I towed my 25' about 20 miles once without the WD hooked up. Doable, but wouldn't want to make it a habit.

A 20' might not even need a WD, should be fairly light?

Depends on the tongue weight and what style receiver you have. My receiver is rated for 500# tongue and 5000# trailer without WDH and 1000# tongue and 10,000# trailer with WDH. You could, potentially, be over weight without a WDH.

And looking at this:

Prowler 20P RBS

You may want to reconsider not using a WDH. It's 5300# dry weight and 450# tongue. Put gear, propane and other cargo in there and I'd bet it's a 6000# load with over 500# tongue weight.

In my younger days I towed a 30' bumper pull TT with my 1997 Chevy Silverado 1500. You'll be fine, just give yourself plenty of room to maneuver.

You'll be fine, I've towed my dads 33' 7000 LB travel trailer a bunch of times without a WD. I just load up the airbags and away I go. If it's a long tow I'd use the WD system, but otherwise I don't.

I've done plenty of towing without a WD hitch. They have their drawbacks and with airlift 1000s I've never had any problems.

You'll die. And probably kill a family.

Just kidding. :p Couldn't resist. You'll be fine. Just don't do 80mph around hair pin turns. ;)

I towed a 20ft concession trailer from Utah to AZ with our Tahoe and no WD and got there safely. Just use common sense and you'll be fine.
