I have a 14 ram black express edition with the Tow package and we are looking at travel trailers. I have searched and it seems there are mixed reviews. I watched the video posted about having to remove all the trim to install the OEM controller i would be nercous trying it myself - most buddies have a prodigy P3 installed - what's the consensus? If you install an OEM does the dealer generally charge to flash it.

I just went through this, the factory controller is about $200.00 PLUS between $100.00-200.00 to flash the sales code (BS). I ended up looking at all the after market and bought a Hopkins Insight flex mount and the plug and play wire connector for less than $100.00 complete. It works great!

I bit the bullet and had the OEM installed by the stealership (whoever coined that term is a genius). That said, it is better than any aftermarket I have used prior, although it has been a few years since my last controller. I really like the look of the OEM controller. I made up the difference by getting aftermarket remote start for $125 installed.

Yep.. OEM has worked great for me and it's nice not having some aftermarket part stuck to the console/dash.

I have had both and they both work great if you got aftermarket make sure it's a progressive not time delayed. The OEM is a lot cleaner install and works flawlessly in the stereo and in the evic. You can't go wrong with either.

The OEM in my '14 was great. Super responsive through all of the settings even loaded up around 9k. Slider was easy to find yet out of the way and gain increments were easily noticed. Smooth brake application obove all. Nothing jerky or bouncy with the system. Sorry for not having a comparison product.

i just mounted my aftermarket Tekonsha Prodigy p3 in my dash over the weekend. just plugs into the 3 plugs under the dash and you dont have to tap into any factory wiring. Cost me about $140 for everything

I went with after market with plug and play just because it was cheaper and easier.
So far it works perfectly.

I put the display in the "cubbie hole", controller in the center storage, and module behind the dash. There is not a single wire to cut or splice, just plug into factory connectors.

My old truck had a Tekonsha P3 and I loved it, it worked great. My new Ram has the oem and I love it, it works great.

If I didn't have one and I had to foot the bill, I would probably try to make the Tekonsha work for a third of the price.
