Opie - Here is my Weight-Safe, looks like I have about the same amount of play as you do. I grabbed a couple of ball mounts with a 2 inch shank and tried the same test on my 1500, they also had play.

I think the amount of receiver play the drop ball mounts demonstrates, 8 inches for you and 10 inches for me, emphasises the amount of play. The Weight-Safe is the only Class V hitch I have so I couldn't do a compare.

I didn't have time to edit the video;

Wear marks of the hitch.

Interesting I could see the benefit although I am sure I would not like the readings sometimes.

I use it to pull this thing around, mostly on weekends to help friends and family. The Weight-Safe first went into service last year. I would say I have about one and a half seasons on it. I run it with about 750 pounds of tongue weight.

Nice tractor.

Appears you've used yours more than me and yours looks better. Interesting.

This is what's usually behind my truck.....

And the bota goes in it as well. I toyed with a pintle ring for awhile but finally just went with a regular 3" drop insert.

Here's the response I just received from Brandon at weigh safe.

"Kris,

My apologies for the delayed response. I have been out of the office and unable to get back to you.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing trouble with your product. We did increase the gross trailer weight capacity, but we have not extended the length on the 8" drop. We have not had this complaint for a 2.5" shank, but we will consider the issue and look to extend the shank in the future.

Due to extrusions and material lengths, the 6" drop has about 1" longer shank. I would be happy to swap you out a 6" for your 8"."

I dont like that answer to much.

You don't like a fully explained answer and an offer to swap the product for free to something that might alleviate his concern? That was A+ customer service...

The par that is in bold is what i was referring to. Material is to short is not an answer id like to here. Material can be had at any length.

Thats All i meant.

Yes but costs can go way up. Also, it's NOT the length it's the width. The hitch is machined on an angle, that's why the "extension" is diagonal so increasing the length that goes in the receiver would increase the width which is a huge increase in cost.

I should have updated sooner. Brandon and I exchanged a few emails and after his statement that they did not make the 8" drop unit with the longer shank I questioned the accuracy of the picture and measurements on their site. Perhaps he was confused or unaware. He then asked for a picture of the unit I have and after sending it, this was his response.....

"Kris,

Thank you for sending the picture. I do have one with the angle shank (extra 1") that I can exchange with you. It has the 12,500 lb GTW rating stamped on the side, but will match the new certified 14,500 GTW rating. Please advise if you are interested and I will provide you with a product return information."

So Ill give that a shot.
