From TT to my 5th Wheel finally

Traded in our TT for a 5th Wheel as you know that I have been talking about this for a few months now so the wife came into some money so we jump on it. It's a 2017 Denali 307RLS that we traded in for, we tow it house from OR to WA which it was 290 miles, oh yeah the 6.4L Hemi tow it with no problem. Tow loaded weight is 12,192 and the payload is 1,985 lbs , 35' ft long the hemi tow it good, I bought the slider B&W hitch for it.

Great looking trailer and nice choice on the hitch - I have the same one. That background looks like Curtis Trailers off of Powell in SE Portland? I've been there to drool over new trailers enough to recognize their buildings :)

Congrats - you're going to love that trailer. Nothing like that new smell :happy107:

Yes thank you, I had to pay extra from the dealer price they wanted to put rail in the bed so it's money well spent I feel. The dealer is Big Country RV in Bend OR. They gave me a good deal compare to the Tacoma WA. dealer, the wife came into some money like over six figure so we said now is the time to do it.

Yes we lost money but we feel that if God gave us this money he will continue to give us more. We are loving it, we got back late so we just drop it off and went home, planning on going back out Friday to place out stuff out of the old TT into the new 5th Wheel.

I really love towing the 5th Wheel compare to the TT but it's all good.

The bottom hitch, when you take it out how do you do it? I have to take it out so I can use it in a week so can I do it since I haven't done it yet.

Congratulations!

I know you've been looking for a while and wanting to step up to a 5'vr. You made a great choice on a trailer and the hitch.

Enjoy!

Are those "actual, real world" weights, Bigdaddy, or manufacturer guesstimates? Can't tell for sure what trim level you've got, but it would be within specs for my '16 2500 4x4 Tradesman, which REALLY makes me smile. We'll probably be upgrading trailers in the next few years and I'm torn between a larger bumper pull and a fiver. Glad you like it. Looks sweet!

The bottom hitch, when you take it out how do you do it? I have to take it out so I can use it in a week so can I do it since I haven't done it yet.

I lift mine out using the landing gear for the 5th and then set it down on a a jack stand so it's not actually hanging from the kingpin. I use to just let it hang but it wouldn't release once after setting it back in the truck and I feared that was the problem.

That thing is too heavy for my old tired back so I let the 5th jacks do the work. When I set it back in the truck I rarely take the time to get directly in the right place. I just drop it in enough to take the weight off, unhook, pull forward, scoot it into place and then back up and latch.

Overall, the latching thing with the 5th takes me longer than the TT. Once the hitch is in the bed and I'm out on the road it's much quicker but the initial setup of getting the hitch in the bed and taking it out takes some time. I'm still a working stiff and need my truck for work 95% of the time. I can only dream of getting to leave the hitch in the bed :)

In the end I prefer the 5th wheel experience but do miss quick hookup at home and having an open bed that the TT provides. It's a classic trade-off. The livability of the 5th and the stability while towing are hard to beat.

Thanks guys we really love it and is planning on taken it out in September 1 for a long trip down to Las Vegas which is about 1,200 miles from our home, we are looking forward to it.

We was out in it today putting in our new bed mattress, a better one of course, we have so much more space with this one than ours TT we had.

Yes sir, the total weight is 12,192 lbs that's is the loaded weight, the hitch weight is 1,985 lbs but I went with 20% of the 12,192 which is 2438 lbs which my ram is 3100 lbs. It would have being higher if I had went with the 18' wheel but mines is 20', my ram is the Big Horn.
