Towed this setup around 1600 miles from Oklahoma City to Crested Butte Colorado. Averaged just under 8mpg. Trailer in a 28x8.5' enclosed with 2x 7000lb axles, and the weight was just under 9000lbs. Truck was able to run the speed limit which was 70-75 most of the time (my trailer tires are rated for higher speeds than that as I know that is a concern on this forum). On the slow, twisty mountain passes it has to run in 1st gear for about 5 miles at 35mph. It just didn't have enough power to accelerate from 1-2nd gear on a grade that steep. I have installed Airlift 1000 bag in my coils and the trailer is loaded properly. The truck handled the weight very very well. I was impressed with the performance (for it only being a 1/2ton). I do not have a WDH either and quite honestly don't plan on getting one after seeing how well this trailer pulled on a long distance trip where we experienced cross winds, head winds, tail winds, etc. 9B1FED9A-BC5C-4F11-ACAD-0D12D43C7336.jpg

You have the 6 spd or 8? Doing the math, you would have been running redline in 1st gear @ 35 mph with the 8 speed. A bit much for 5 miles but the Hemi is pretty durable. Just curious

Nice. I wanna get a travel trailer, >20', but have a 2x4 :/. Shouldn't be a problem, right?

Nope, my dad only buys 4x2 Trucks, and he has a 9000lb fifth wheel, and a gasser and it pulls just fine. he has no issues. He perfers it over a 4x4.

4x4 doesn't improve towing. Unless you're talking about obvious things like snow

On most trucks it actually reduces the tow rating, mostly because there's more drag on the driveline and added weight.

I have the 6 speed. with 3.55 gears and 275/65/20 tires. I was right around 4000rpm if memory serves me.

d521d56825c0bd8eb06caea04ce307e9.jpgI'd pull cars for my friends at least once a month lol. Never had a single problem with my 12 1500. Until my buddy blew his 6.0 Ford Diesel, truck weighed like 8-9k. My truck could pull 8,550.
