I just got an 03 1500 4.7L. I tow my boat around with no problem. My parents use it to tow their hybrid camper which weighs about 4,000 pounds. It tows it well just not able to leave it on cruise control without the engine constantly going crazy. Just wondering if there are any mods/upgrades I can do that would help with this towing a little bit. Not expecting anything huge. I know it is the smaller engine and is never going to pull it flawlessly. Just wondering what you all have done to help with towing needs.

Thanks guys

Welcome. Alot of guys use SC for their 4.7s to give it some more power. What all is cuttently done to the truck? Gears will also help take the brunt of the load.

I agree with a Superchips programmer and gears would help massively too

The truck is pretty well stock. It had an aftermarket exhaust on it when I bought it. I am not sure which one it is exactly. It has the premium sized tires on it so 275/60/20. Not sure if that will change anything else. Also I do not have sway bars on it, so I will look into those.

A couple of my friends had mentioned that after I get a CAI that I should look into super chips, so I'll do that as well.

From what I gather in town you will see a gain because your not lugging the motor as much highway could go either way. Check your build sheet and see if you have the 3.55s or the 3.92s in the truck.

Just checked my build sheet. The gears in it are 3.92 right now. Do you guys think I should still upgrade them?

it will help but with a 4x4 your looking at 2k+ for the gears in town will be nice on the highway anything above 60-65 will eat gas like crazy because of rpm range now could look into cam and tune seeing that you have the 3.92s
