I recently got a great deal on an older (1975-78) 8 foot camper and have payload concerns.

When I hauled the camper home I didn't notice any unusual swaying or groaning from the rear, and the leafs, while not completely compressed, were nearly at load I believe.

I don't know the weight of the camper, but the guy I purchased it from had it on a stock 98 F150.

Surely my Ram can handle this thing?

I have 1500lb helper coil springs I want to install as well..

I attached a photo of the camper and my truck. Unfortunately I have none with it loaded.

Thoughts?

Thank you a lot for your replies. This camper is my entire summer waiting to happen.

The truck without the extra helpers in the back should have no issue with the camper being on the back.

Get some helper spring. Cheap easy mod that will make the ride better. Hellwig has some that won't effect ride quality while there is no load.

Here's the lowest price I have found on air bags. I'm gonna get them for my 04 1500 if the WDH doesn't even out the suspension when I hook up my new camper.

The payload on that truck should be about 1400lbs. There should be some sort of info on the camper that says it's weight. Check the door frame. If not you could load it up and head to a truck scale.
