What size trailer?

I towed my mom's 20ft with my 2005. I don't know the weight but it did sag my rear end quite a bit. It got me looking into air spring helpers for the rear.

The gearing of the truck will greatly change the characteristics as well. Also, the size of the tire will change things...

Here is the thread I started with some links. Not much for replies here in the towing section. Weird for a Ram truck forum

I have a 5.7L Hemi Quad cab with a 3.92 rear end. I looked at buying a travel trailer and I had the truck inspected. I was told that the truck would pull 10,000 lbs with no modifications.

The stock hitch is not a weight distribution hitch and the truck does not come from the factory with a trailer brake controller. So, those are probably purchases you need to make. I was quoted $400 for both, installed.

Have your truck inspected by a professional. Mine was free and they gave me a lot of towing advice.

You are citing the 2009 model year. For 2007, the I6 diesel was available for the 1500 and you could pull 15,750 lbs with it if you took off the box and ran it as a chassis. The same year, the Hemi models are rated for 9,860 lbs. Close enough to 10,000 lbs in my book.

Also, you can exceed you GCVW legally and safely. The FMCSA regulates the towing capacities (among other things) and they do allow modifications that increase rated GCVW.

I have a 2007 QC SB with a Hemi and 3.92 gear and 20" chrome clad. Looking up my truck for towing comes in about 7500lbs, I think with 17" rims it is 8300lbs or there abouts.

What about lift kits and drop hitches, thinking about a 6 in lift that would require a drop hitch are they still rated for heavy pulling ????

I used to pull a 16 foot airstream with my truck when it had the 4.7 in it (poor engine kicked the bucket a while ago). But now I pull a 20 foot Open Range trailer with no problems.
