The graph is for the hemi

The base V8 is the 4.7, and the 4.7 came with 235 Hp. The Hemi has almost 150 more Hp.

The towing limit is low on these trucks, my regular cab long bed 5spd manual is 6250 lbs (3.55 gears).

This has the breakdown by vehicle and specifications:

No way that's accurate. 9,125lbs for my half ton hemi. Those are getting close to 3/4 ton numbers. I wanna say the actual haul rating is 7,000#s

Well, dodge's site says:

2003 Ram 1500 Single Cab, short bed, 4wd with Hemi:
With 3.92 Axle Ratio Axle Ratio You Can Tow 8850 lbs

The frames are strong enough, it's really just the power and axle ratio. So, I believe it. The hemi with the lower gears (numerically higher) should have the power to maintain speeds at that load.

I have no doubt my 4.7 could tow 10k lbs, the only problem is, I would be in first gear crawling up hills. This is the only reason it is unsafe, I can't maintain highway speeds.

No where in that graph do I or you see the word Hemi.

That's a screen shot of a very long article on the advances of the Dodge Ram and the hemi motor

If you go to dodgeram.info the ratings are 1k pounds less for all trucks. Seems like it should be cut and dry but I guess not

235 horse power is sure not going to pull 8660 pounds.

Just for comparisions...My 1998 Chevy C.C. DRW...4x4...4.10...only had 185 hp and had a tow rating of up to 7500#........IMO... these new tow ratings that the manufacturers are putting out are alllllllll ********....

My old 97 Ford F250, 5.4 w/ 2wd had a tow rating of 7800 pounds.

It is accurate. I think when I looked up my truck the tow rating with my setup is like 9800lbs and I've personally towed a good bit more than that and it did just fine. And the newer trucks are even higher.

Also, going to a 3/4 ton isn't going to get you a bunch more in the towing department unless you go to a diesel. Comparing a 1500 hemi to a 2500 hemi, the tow ratings aren't going to change much, but the payload will. But regardless the tow rating of a tow package equipped hemi is much higher than 7000lbs.

I wouldn't be worried throwing 10k lbs behind a hemi... But trying to STOP 10k pounds with my half ton is another story... I think a good safe number to tow with a half ton is under 8k pounds. Your truck could probably pull 12k if you made it. Sure it won't be happy doing it, but it would move it. But could you stop it? If there's anyone crazy enough to try, let me know :naughty:
