OD switch won't always work

2003 2500 V10 4WD Auto. The Overdrive switch in the shift knob only works when in Park position. Thinking a bad wire in the steering column. Any one else seen this?

Yeah it happens, I (junkyarded) a gear selector that had a good button. 10$
