My truck didn't come with a hitch so I found one CL. Seller said he doesn't have the bolts my questions is do I need to buy the or can I use the same bolts from the bumper. How does it work? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Have you been under your truck to see what's there? My truck didn't come with a hitch, but it did have that cross piece. I only had to add the actual receiver part to it. Older trucks may be different tho.

I was kicking those pieces around today while cleaning up. I can take some pictures of the hardware tomorrow if you want.

Yes it has the cross piece has everything I guess besides the actual hitch part so I'm guessing I take this piece off and mount the whole assembly in place of it? So I can prob use the same bolts? If not can I buy all the bolts at a hardware store?

Ps
If I have to tow something I use the ball on my bumper and tie the chains on to the hooks connected to the cross piece

Im not sure you want to get into that.

I remeber being told you have to lift the bed up as well.

Just get this one. trust me it will do everything the one in your OP will do for you. You will never look back. In fact if you went to a dealership this is what they would sell you for 100.00.
It is a 30 minute install. The one your looking at could be a day.
I dont recomend it at all!

All the cross members are bolted in. Some of the receivers are bolted and some are welded to the cross member. I would trust the bolted one's more than a weld as using proper bolts can be stronger than welds.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I guess it's better than starting a new one. Is that hitch you linked to the same as a Curt 13333? It appears that is what was pictured. I have an 03 1500 QC 5.9L 2WD without the hitch but the cross member is there and it looks like that would bolt up with no issues. The door sticker says the truck was mfg on 10/02. not sure what the differences would be on ones built after 11/02. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. :)

I can't answer your question, I'm sure someone on here can and will, but just to give you kudo's for doing a search first for what your looking for, and to find this thread and ask here as your first post - well done!

I talked to Curt Mfg Tech support. They make the 13333 for 1500's made after 11/02, and 13326 for 1500's built before 11/02. I asked what the difference was between the two, other than the latter having four holes along the back instead of two, and the 100/1000 lb rating increase to the former. The tech immediately replied there was a difference in spacing between the holes. I haven't measured mine yet so I do not know the space between. It also seems, watching from video's, that the 13326 might be a bit larger as Curt includes a spacer to go between the hitch and the bumper bar, or maybe more accurately, there is a difference in the bumper bar depending on when the truck was built, either before or after 11/02.

Thought's?

Ok, time for an update. I actually ordered a Reese hitch through Advance Auto, part number 33072. Now, the online Rep for Advance could not tell me the difference, or if it was for a truck made before or after 11/02. I ordered it with the understanding that if it did not fit I could return it via the local store. I got it today, un-boxed it, and did a test fit. NOW I can actually SEE why it won't fit. The depth is incorrect for one, it won't fit past the bumper bar to reach the mounting holes. even if it did, the holes do not line up on the bumper bar, and it looked like the holes would not line up on the step bumper.

So with more research and Advance Auto Parts Customer Service on the phone, I have ordered Reese hitch with part number 37084 which says "2002 - 2003 Dodge, Pickup, Ram 1500, (Built Before 11/2002)". I did get my refund on the previous hitch, less the shipping. After ordering the 37084, my cost is about $1 less then the other (I got a 30% discount, plus my $20 off coupon). Wait...the hitch is $117. I look at the order and I see the break down. The rep also, in a round about way, refunded my shipping. How? She also credited the shipping cost on this order. I'll give AAP kudo's on this one. Now we'll see if this one fits correctly. if not, I think my issue will be with Reese and not AAP. I'll keep ya updated.

Hey Red,

I notice that's a Ducati hitch plug there. You have a Duc? (I know, off topic. hehehe)

Ok. Got the 37084 Reese hitch from UPS today. It fits. However, with the Reese hitch there is no fishing wire, so I had to make my own using safety wire. There are supposed to be six bolts to hold this on. If I use the two on the bottom of the bumper tube before putting the ones in on the back of the tube, the holes on the back don't line up as the hitch is at an angle at that point. If I take the two bottom ones out, then put the back ones in, I can't "fish" the bottom bolts in because the wire and bolt won't fit through the holes in the Reese hitch. So, that said, it's on with four bolts tightened to fracking Hades. It should hold with no issues. I did a frame mount factory hitch on a Yukon with only four bolts and it held with nary a hint at failure. I will also be getting a couple of new sockets so I can properly check the bolts, but they are torqued down to specs. We'll see how things go. I'll try to get some pics in the next day or so of the installed unit and post 'em up.
