I am thinking of purchasing a 25ft lite model travel trailer. It is rated at 4500lbs dry. So maybe 5500 loaded. Any issues that you guys can think of pulling with my truck? 2002 1500 quad cab 5.9 2wd. I think I read that it is rated at 8400lbs but I have also read that the transmissions on these are not the best. Anything I can do to prevent a trans failure? I am planning a flush, filter replacement and new fluids in the trans and rear end. Anything else I should do other than cross my fingers?

dont trust me or listen to every word i say but i have a 40 ft raptor toy hauler about 15300 loaded and my dad thought the same thing it had 80,000 miles on the truck when we got the trailer and my dad got the trans flushed and the next time we pulled the trailer we blew the trans but thats just my story

Nick, I would guess I will be towing 10-15 times a year? Probably 2-6 hrs in travel time on each haul. Nothing cross country but pretty much all over California.

Wow 15,300 is a ton of a trailer. Was the transmission towing it fine until the flush?

if you tow a lot or for a while, especially with couple thousand pounds it can put a lot of wear into it. also with a lot of weight i wouldnt recommend using the bumper with a ball. get an actual hitch for it. hell wouldnt recommend towing from the bumper in the first place. over time youll start to see/ feel the wear. just try and keep everything maintained and hope for the best. one thing about a bad transmition, it just means you can buy a stronger better one!

yeah the trans had no problems or any thing that seemed to go bad in it if you ask someone who knows about trans when they hook it up to do the flush the drain it and then blast air into it and what i heard the air throws around dirt and stuff that has built up in the trans and thats what screws them up at least thats what i heard

I tow the about the same amount my 24' travel trailer comes in at 4100 empty. We tow a few times a year and I've had no problems. I make sure to keep up with regular maintenance. I'd say no tranny flush. I have done the diy flush with no adverse effects but like mentioned earlier a shop does a power flush which can be bad news.

You also can put a bigger trans cooler on it to keep the temp down
