In want to know what rear end i have in my 2006 ram 1500 4.7 2WD 4 door slt pickup. I want to put 4.56 gears in her so I can start towing my 19' travel trailer. Need to know what rear end so i can begin shopping and pricing installation of gears. Don't know if she has LSD or not. Gonna check tonight. If it does ill pull the diff plate and inspect it. Gonna go with YUKON gears. Maybe a Detroit LSD I don't know yet. But I'm familiar with Dana diff models. Haven't really had the time to crawl around under it and look for any markings. Just posting this to see if anyone knows off the top of their head. Mods- if this is posted on the incorrect spot can u pm me and let me know where it needs to be thanks.

No, it's not. If you have a stock 1500, then it is the corporate 9.25"

Unless it has the towing package you have the one the above poster said. An easy way to find out which one you have is to go to a dealer and have them run the vin through their database. If they are nice they will give you a printout of everything on your truck.

When I had to replace the motor my old rear end went with the old motor and I had to have one for the viper V10 installed. Still have the old rearend but I have a project I am working on that it is gonna go into.

All 1500's from 1994-2010 have the 9.25" rear except for the 2006-up 1500 mega cabs which have the 10.5" rear.

So you're saying you installed an SRT-10 Dana 60 behind your 4.7...?

Nope had a Viper V10 installed into my truck when the original 4.7 bit the dust. Had the dana installed with the motor because the dealership let me know the original would not handle the torque. Was a surprise when my motor crapped out a rod through the block like it did but seeing as it was under warrantee the dealership did the work at no cost to me except for the motor, new tranny, and the rearend. The motor and tranny I got from a wrecked viper and had the dealership go through both before they installed it, while the rearend was new.

Had to replace the computer and several other electronic parts to make the whole thing work, but the dealership got everything done as fast as they could (took 2 weeks while I drove around in a loaner car), But I am very satisified with what I have in my truck now.

Pretty much my truck is the SRT 10 version without the badging, the iron block, and the limiters which a true SRT 10 has. Plus being a light weight standard cab 1500 it has some extreme acceleration.

Might want to update your info then, says you still have the 4.7l mag. Might be where the confusion is coming from. That thing must be a blast to drive..

Hey guys I just traded her in on a 2002 Cummins 2500 auto quad cab 4x4 with 89000 miles. Got sick of trying to figure out how the hell to tow a trailer and this and that and what not with the 1500. Simply put- half ton trucks AINT MADE TO TOW HEAVY LOADS! Dealer gave me $11k for mine (89k miles also!) and sold me the cummins for $18.5k financed the differnce. my 1500 was paid for so that made it nice. good luck fellers. Thanks again for all the info. BTW mine did have the 10.5" rear NOT the 9.25"....

Exactly and that is why the 4th gen stopped playing the tow rating game and made it a delight for what 90% of 1500 owners do moderate towing and a lot of empty driving.

Shoot I eat most sports cars with ease, but traction is hell to aquire at times. I definitely do not get into it when raining. Decided to get a water bag for the bed and that helps. Still love the looks of astonishment when I drop 3 gears at 70 and take off like a bat out of heck when some Mustang tries me on the Highway. Neighbor is looking for a V10 from a Viper to stuff into his new Charger. Found one at a decent price, but we gotta go and get it. Just gonna have to find a radiator that will let the thing run cool though.

With my truck I can tow damn near any trailer I want, but I only have a 16 foot traveltrailer, and 2 16 foot car haulers. Haven't tried anything bigger yet.
