you know you got the exact same tach that i have lol.

you should probably just build your own plastic piece instead of jb welding the pieces back together. you would always see the cracks unless you dumped a crap load of paint on it at which point it would most likely be so smooth anyway that you would have been better off making your own

I know I did. lol Was on clearance at HF and I got a 20% off coupon. So I had to get it.

You're right, what I'm eventually going to do is just make some sheet metal filler panels with holes in them for the gauges to go over the dash bezel.

Here's the night video

ya if you wire them properly they hold the last color just fine. i think i bought mine on sale for $15 with no coupon.

i just figure there is no point wasting $5 on jb weld. once plastic brakes it is hard to get it back to how it looked before it broke. steel is not too bad of a way to go but i was thinking Plexiglas. easy to cut compared to steel and you can do some pretty cool things with it and led lights in the future.

I wired it as per the instructions, I guess the folks that had issues didn't lol

I don't really care much about it "looking good", I just wanted to hold it together to give me something to allow the sheet metal to attach to. No plexiglas on this thing. lol I want to HIDE my damage, not extenuate it. :bleh: Besides, I've got a bunch of sheet metal at work, I'd just have to buy shears to cut it. lol

i think once you start trying to cut the sheet metal you will be like F this because i kid you not. you would need patience galore and more than shears to cut what your thinking of. you would need a proper steel hole saw and other metal cutting tools to make it happen. it is not that easy. that is why i suggested Plexiglas. you can pretty much cut what you want with a jig saw. stick some led's in the side of the plexiglas tape off the surface with cool designs and paint or you could frost the whole thing with a sander then paint cool things on it.

unless you got all the proper metal working tools playing with steels is a pain in the ass especially with what you want to do. try it out and you will see what i mean. the bigger the piece you are working on the more likely it will bend and get mess up especially with thinner metal

try it and see what you think. the bigger the piece and the more you cut out of it the easier it bends and once it bends it is also nearly impossibly to get it perfectly flat again which is why most people usually use aluminum to make there dashes. you could always just use plexiglas and paint it a solid color or you could just locate another dash that is just in a lot better shape.

I understand what you're talking about with the sheet steel. I ain't buying a sheet of aluminum. lol

I guess I could go plexi. Hell, we've got some of that sitting around at work too. haha

And finding a dash in good shape for a 70s truck is getting harder and harder to do. :(

i just figure plexiglas would be the easiest material to deal with. i personally wouldn't even attempt to make a steel dash cover even with all the tools i have. i know i still don't have all the right tools to make it look good unless you don't mind spending hundreds of hours with a dremel cutting everything and making it look decent. i don't have the patients for that

Yeah you're probably right. I'm still likely going to JB and open it up.

Drove it to the parts house to get oil. It's not happy with the oil that's still in it...in the least bit. haha

No doubt. Only smokes if it's been sitting for a bit, and apparently when I rev it to 4500 rpm. lol

It'll be getting new oil tomorrow tho.

Okay...so I'm pretty sure which cylinder my misfire is on just by looking at the plugs.

It's hard to see, but plug number 2 in this picture is cylinder 3 on the left bank...

It is a bit darker than the others and when I pulled it, it smelled vaguely of gas.

Plugs 2, 4, 6, 8 from the right bank

Checked for vacuum leaks all over the place with starting fluid. Nothing at all.

starting fluid don't always find your leaks but a vacuum gauge will tell you if you got leaks. plugs all look fine from here.

I know.. vac gauge is on the list along with a compression gauge.

And trust me, cylinder 3 was bad.
