This is my latest project, a 1984 Dodge W350. It has a 360 and a 4 speed, and has just under 8,000 original miles on it. My plans with it are to make a dependable 4 wheel drive out of it, mainly just for driving and snow bogging. I'm going to leave the exterior and interior just the way it is. I'll get some more pictures of it soon!

Couple more pictures. The mileage, and the broadcast sheet still behind the seat.

Wow, what a find. That thing is new. I guess the FD didn't use it much.

I like to keep my stuff nice, and this truck is no exception especially with the mileage. My kind of snow wheeling isn't hard on stuff, it's just fun to get out and ride around in the snow, and it won't be used for anything else off road. It's going to remain stock, with the exception of tires, maybe some Detroit lockers in the axles, and a receiver on the front to temporarily mount a winch and then store it away.

I ran out to my shed and took some more pictures. I probably wont be doing much to the truck this winter other than maybe a few maintenance items. there is a freeze plug towards the back of the engine that is leaking a little.

My grandpa was the previous owner of this truck. When he got it there was a fire unit in the back for fighting brush fires. The water tank had leaked and rusted out the bed. So he had the floor replaced and then Rhino Lined.

That belongs in a museum.

I plan on keeping the truck until the day I die. I couldn't stand to put it in a museum. A truck like this needs to be driven. Letting it sit would just allow it to deteriorate even more mechanically. It's only for fun, and will never be daily driven, so the miles aren't going to rack up. For anyone worrying about me taking care of the truck, here is a current picture of my daily driver. It's been my DD for 7 years, through Minnesota snow and salt. Not one bit of rust on it. It's even been snow wheeling a few winters.

Well, that worry is over with. lol

And I know what you mean about old trucks not getting driven deteriorating. My 76 doesn't like sitting for more than a week.

Like I said, I want to keep this thing in the same pristine shape that it is in now. I just want to make the drive train more dependable with some proven aftermarket parts, better tires and maybe even a winch, so I won't have to worry about anything while snow wheeling. I'm a fan of over-building stuff.

Having said that, I've been looking at my options for tires. Since I want to keep this thing mostly stock, I'm going to keep the stock wheels which are 16.5". So my options are kind of limited. The two tires I have it narrowed down to are either the Super Swamper TSL bias ply, which would be a 33"x12.50" or the Super Swamper narrow SS which would be a 33"x9.50". I should be able to fit 33" tires on the truck the way it is. Any input?

For tires I'd personally try to stay with radial. They're much more predictable and wear and track better.

I'm not too worried about any of that since this will just be a toy, but I know that the radials will air down better than bias plys. I'll have to look through the Interco site again and see if there were radial TSLs that would fit 16.5" rims

I guess they do have a 33" radial for a 16.5" wheel. It's 12.50" wide though, and I haven't measured yet to see if I can fit the 12.5" wide tires on there. I might have to go with the 9.50" tire, but that only comes in a bias ply.

You might be able to find some 16in steelies that are the same as what you've got and use those simply for the availability of tires.

I know my 76 used to have 16.5s...but those are long gone, likely for that reason. lol

Yea we'll see how it goes. I'll have to do some measuring and see what I can fit. Anything will be better than these original tires. They've seen better days, and I can't imagine they're great in the snow.
