New gen 1 dodge owner. Thought I should introduce myself. I have a 1989 D150 with the 360 in it. I have always wanted one of these. This will be my first major project. I'm no mechanic but I've tackled a few automotive projects myself so far so I plan on doing all the work myself.uploadfromtaptalk1435456390674.jpg

Well didn't have it to long before I ran into issues. First the water pump blew and the fan tilted forward striking the radiator. So I got it towed to a shop, had the necessary parts replaced. Well less then a week later the temp on my truck skyrocketed and the plastic top on the radiator. Seems like somehow I have exhaust escaping into the coolant system. I'm hoping it's just a blown head gasket. Right now I'm in the process of tearing down the engine to find out what exactly is wrong with it. I'll keep y'all informed as I go.

Wish I had had the presence of mind to snap more pictures as I went but here's what where I sit today, got the intake manifold, value cover and rocker arm (one side so far) off the heads. Got the bolts off the headers now I just got to get under the truck to pull the away from the heads far enough to get to the head bolts. I'm stopping here today mostly cause this Texas heat is kicking my behind. I decided that while I have everything broken down I might as well paint so now I'm cleaning and prepping the individual parts for a coat of paint. Today I worked on the intake manifold and valve covers.uploadfromtaptalk1441580155440.jpguploadfromtaptalk1441580179086.jpg

you may want to make sure you put some self etching primer on the parts before you paint them. if you don't the paint will most likely just flake off eventually. i had my engine painted up all nice looking at one point using engine enamel without primer and it started looking like crap eventually when paint started flaking and i have taken some of the parts down to bare metal. also make you use gas and oil resistant paint.
